A good trick for fighting the dogs in "Overture" is to stand on an object, like a crate.

Then, you can take potshots with your axe when they lunge towards you, and they can't actually jump up and attack you.

Overture was disappointing. Everything other than the main loop of gameplay was pretty good, too bad main loop is like 60% of the game. I am talking about the enemies in the dark maze gameplay with the annoying track (which as you said only detracts from an otherwise awesome soundtrack). Fine the first time, not when you realize this mechanic will repeat the whole game. After a while I just said f*ck it and chopped all the dogs I saw aggressively, the game became less tedious after that.
Black Plague was on the other hand an awesome game. Better and more varied areas, less samey mechanics, story got more interesting. Great stuff.

I feel like we need a bunch of games with the physics of Amnesia and Penumbra, and not in the horror genre. I have no idea how in all these years other studios have not caught on to the immersion that, say, first-person point-and-click games would get from something like this.

But what I'm really intrested in is a video on Amnesia Rebirth, the one where they stripped most of the mechanics and mystery of the original for a pretty average alien horror story.

I feel like a higher detail on the controls would be a good idea because it lacks controller support.

I feel like a controler update to this game would be enough to be an signal that they would port it to further consoles.

While the Rog Ally can do some stuff it is one of the reasons i bought a keyboard and mouse for a steam deck.
I also use a mix of the keyboard and other controllers to make it usable

I was bored to death by penumbra. Some of the puzzles were hair pulling annoying. “Red” was just obnoxious, and the fact that he’s stuck inside a boiler or whatever had me laughing. I played a bit of black plague and found it better but I stopped right after master roshi started telling me about random shit.

Wondered if the furnace scene is a biblical reference to the three men thrown into a furnace by Nebuchadnezzer the second. They refused to bow down to an idol of the king and were spared from a fiery death by an angel. The poor soul inside had been holding it together for so long, perhaps we can see his endurance as a similar form of refusal to yield. Maybe Philip can be seen as a form of delivering angel.

I tried the first Amnesia game after loving the Penumbra trilogy and found Amnesia inferior in every way. Didn't get far.

I just realized the main characters names’ in punambra 1 and 2 are a nod to HOWARD PHILLIPS LOVECRAFT. 😂

I remember Clarence at some point saying something about "the rules", and I understood that as Red was infected and couldn't unalive himself because the Tuurngait wouldn't let him.

I was also worried at the time that Clarence was going to kill the mood of the game, but he ended up being my favorite part due to how interesting he was, and how he actually added to the game

I remember playing this for the first time while actually living in the arctic. Made for a surreal horror experience.
