One theory that I found surprising and interesting was the Amendment that changed Senators to a straight popular vote from the states. (10th I think). Prior to that Senators were beholding to state houses for re-election and wouldn't dare vote for bills that weakened state government. States grew steadily weaker in relation to the Federal government ever since.

Uncommon Knowledge is on hiatus, but new content will be coming later in March. Thank you.

Agreed. Robinson is one of the few interviewers I know of who allows the guest to speak their minds instead of framing in within their preconceived outlook. Even if Chomsky took the chair, Robinson would pick his brain and facilitate the audience to understand his guest's claims.

For me this really encapsulates the issue with right-wing thought at present. Rather than seeing current economic problems as long-term structural issues resulting from globalisation and the essential fact that 'the West' no longer has the entire rest of the world as a captive market but as an active and dynamic competitor, they blame 'the government', 'the left' and the decline in 'personal responsibility'. The policies they espouse are in reality only going to exacerbate the decline.

I do so love James Buckley for his intelligence. I may not entirely agree on some of his stances but I respect his view.

People a;ways talk about WIlliam F. Buckley but hardly mention James and I think I prefer James.
