I don't know that Amit Segal said something or revealed anything no one else sees. I think his comments are common sense in the aftermath of Israel's retaliatory strike on Iran. However, I don't think Yishai's apparently rosy view of Israel's current position is warranted. The Sunni Arab states don't want Israel as a regional superpower except in as much as they can get Jews to fight and die for their purposes. If their enemies fight their enemies, that's good for them, right? I think that's especially the view of the Saudis. As for Israel's strike on Iran, the Jerusalem Post reported that Iran was set back by a mere 6 months to 1 year. So, I am not so sure that this is such a great victory (yet) although I agree it could set the stage for further, more comprehensive victories in the future.

The essential problem isn't so easily removed. It's the religious differences which are also utilized by the governments to gain and use power. The worst part of that is when a religion which has roots in the very distant past and demands violence, the people still have difficulty renouncing it. So, the people are slow to change, the governments are slow to change, and the divisions continue. Since religious views change at an even slower rate than glacier movements, these differences often are "settled" through violence and deaths of the fervently (and often militantly) religious. Iran had learned long ago that the way to avoid that was through proxies. Let the others die for their cause. Israel has depended on the United States to some extent, but can also survive by using modern technologies. It's a different world.
A strong Israel could be a very good thing, keeping the piece through superior technologies. A modern government in Iran would also be excellent, though we haven't seen that for some time. The path to that kind of arrangement seems a bit more clear now, but by no means assured.

So Israel has to recalibrate the ways in which it deals with the outside world - the wolrd has shrunk and Israel is seen by much if the world as holding back the islamists jihadis and ISIS
