Early natives did their share of eliminating species themselves such as mammoths and giant sloths so stop with the superiority complex.

Great story, except, . . . These came from Canada, Yes? Where is a mention of thanks for Canada donating these bison?
Or, did you not ask for them and simply went and seized them? What's the deal, is it too much to thank to our wonderful neighbor to the north? How did the transfer come about? What is the program being operated in Canada where they had 200 bison available to generously gift them to the USA? This nationalism towards foreign nations is "No Class" in general, but, to continually do this to our best friend, North American sibling, partner and closest ally is reprehensible. Then, there's tt trump who wants to hammer them with tariffs!!! Why? How many US automobiles parts and assemblies are made in Canada? How many US branded autos are sold in Canada each year? This omission to your reporting speaks volumes to your arrogance, like you EXPECT Canada to give ALL the bison to the US. OK, more than enough said, apologies for the rant, but, I think I got the point across! OH, what? it was detained at the border? OH well, that's how it goes!

That's incorrect. There are at least 3 herds of wood bison in Southern Alaska and have been for several decades.

Why introduce something that needs more then that can provided. To understand how these herbivores can survive it needs large tracks of free range grass fields to survive. For better picture consider all of Wyoming having zero fences. Practical objective, not. The enclosure of land is the culprit of its extinction. Unless you want to make Wyoming entirely of free range for some species it’s a practice of fruitlessness. It’s another California Condor project. But if you want to feed(beef carcasses ) animals like condors have at it. Eventually private donation won’t last feed these species that needs large amount of land to survive.

ya know, it might've been good to give more specifics as to what distinguishes wood bison from priairie bison, other than just to so say "the supersize version". Comparative height at the shoulder, weight, any other morphological characteristics.

No one in Canada ever thought wood bison to be extinct. Several herds, though small, exist in Elk Island National Park, Wood Buffalo National Park, and adjacent lands. Extensive efforts have been made for years to preserve these herds, and to limit or reverse the unintended mix of their populations with plains bison.

Historical sources indicate that bison populations in North America declined significantly after the arrival of European settlers. Indigenous peoples coexisted with bison for centuries, practicing sustainable hunting methods. However, the arrival of European settlers led to the near extinction of bison through excessive hunting and the destruction of their habitat. CBS, if you're telling this story, tell the whole truth.

The herd wasn't recently "found". They've been around, breeded, and conserved for DECADES. Recently introduced to Alaska about 9 years ago from Elk Island National Park east of Edmonton. EINP has been breeding both Wood Bison and Plains Bison stock for all over Canada and the US for DECADES. Wake up Americans.

Also, the US nearly killed off their now "National Bird" with DDT back in the 60s, i.e. the bald eagle but were repopulated with Canadian bald eagles. And Canadian wolves were brought in to save Yellowstone. Your welcome.
