Very nice. Very old school. I use a swivel knife but your way seems much better. I’ve never seen carving with a short knife, must try it as I really don’t like swivel knives , my finger always slips forward making it a real pain to keep on line. Why no beveling or burnishing on the project? I'm curious if that was not a process that would've been done during frontier times.

So that's why Half Life 3 never came out. Gabe became an leather working artisan! Joking aside, I've been watching these videos with my mom and we're loving these more craft oriented videos. However we initially started this channel for the cooking videos!

I'd be interested in seeing a video on how they would have "copied" these patterns so that when they wore out one in a project or two, they'd have more to use.

I’m looking for a tracing stylist such as the one used in this video, but after a lot of searching I’ve come up empty handed. Is there a store that stocks this type of stylist. I feel like ballpoint would tear through paper easier and I’d prefer to use paper patterns

Very cool video but am I the only one bothered by the candle in the background scorching the shelf above?

You'd be able to pin it down without making a mark on the leather when tracing by simply leaving a couple spots that stick out from the leather underneath that can be cut off after the design is transferred.

A background punch. I figured that you cut away the leather at the surface, thinning it. I didn't think that you compressed it. Interesting. Thanks for the video.

I LOVE that you didn't go all 20th. century with a pear shader and veiner, and still came away with an exquisite looking piece of period leather art, my compliments. I've got all the tools, and I've been trying to do leather tooling for 30 years with no success, congratulations on a great job.
