Funnily enough, found in game this is being sung by an important character, on a stage.

I love how you picked up on all of the 5 emotions as that was what they were going for as it is the duviris theme

its also important to note that the world of duviri is based on a children's book given to children who underwent an experiment of which one of the known symptoms was wild emotions. So they created a book in which characters represented leaning too far into one emotions to try to basically re teach the kids how to control their emotions those stories being

"The prince of fire" about lodun and rage

"The harbinger of joy" about mithila and joy becoming mania.

"The covetous courtier" about bombastine and envy

"the sorrowful soprano" about luscinia and sadness

"the fearful conspirator" about sythel fear and paranoia

Emotions are a huge part in duviris story

Duviri Paradox was another amazing story in warframe and in this piece if you know the lore you can tell when the song moves from anger to sadness to Happiness to fear. which are the four emotions the Dominus Thrax the main antagonist goes through as the story progresses.

Funny you should mention this music being almost for the stage, when the in game setting is a madman’s dreamscape essentially where he imprisoned so many citizens of the people he was with, except in said world they all have a very Old Playwright feel and a very drama 🎭 based themes also their skin is made of Porcelain Automata style parts very bluish and grey/gold with Drama 🎭 mask feels. So this music is essentially for a stage play you can interact with, feel, see, imagine, and live in….its never the same experience twice but always the same paths… it’s very interesting…even for those of us less inclined to operatic music.

Whenever I watch a professional musician react to songs from games I love, especially when they don’t have exact context, they always find a meaning in the song very close to that missing context. It’s a true testament to how far video game composers have come, and how just because it’s “a silly video game” doesn’t mean that there can’t be true artistry put into it.

I attended Tennocon where they played this live. It was surreal seeing a room full of gamers mesmerized by opera.

It's really great to hear someone with your particular skillset listening to the music of Warframe. It always feels like when you give Warframe the chance, it surprises you constantly, and it was interesting to note that you spotted the mood shifts throughout this piece without actually playing Duviri, because it exactly runs with this theme in mind.

I love how as the video goes and he takes the music in his face changes subtly to match the song.

This song, has to be the most emotional song I have ever heard. The anger verse, sounds tense and possibly angry, the fear and sadness ones are kind of combined, and it just works perfectly. Then the joy is a complete switch up but it works so well. Then into the envy one with the squeaky violin thing, just perfect.

So this is my favorite expansion musically because once every few hours the place where you do these missions (The Duviri Spiral), a giant living paradox of ever-shifting themes and setting is influenced by the emotions of it's ruler Dominus Thrax. He has appointed one man or woman to represent each of his emotions Lodun poses wrath and malice, Mathilla for joy, s Bombastine for envy, Luscinia for sorrow and Sythel for fear. In each of these emotions, not only the color of the sky but the entire world changes, reality tinged a new color from the influence of a broken man's emotions. The entire area is like an old, theater play that is always changing. It's one big performance and I love it.

The fact we can find her singing in duviri without the music is beautiful.

The Sorrowful Soprano; the caged songbird, an object of Petty Jealousy; Luscinia, the most beautiful soul of the Quintet of Emotions in Duviri.

Dang. Warframe is my favorite game, I got a degree in Classical Studies, and I've seen Dido and Aeneas performed on stage, and I NEVER made the connection to Dido's lament. It's so obvious now that it's been pointed out. Oof.

fantastic callout on the sadness in the strings, our opera singer in this story arc in warframe goes by the name and title of luscinia the sorrowful soprano, and is literally sorrow personified
