To be honest, even the best BW on the roster outside the champ, Umar doesn't really have a shot. Merab went into that fight with a nasty injury and staph infection, and he had an injury going into this one. And by all accounts he looks better than his original fight with omalley, against a more focused and sharper, uninjured version of omalley. I think the only one who can stop merab will be someone who has ko power and really good td defense, and extremely good cardio. Only one I could even fathom is umar but unless that hand break completely cut his ability to fight i dont know bro

This statement is factually incorrect as in both Sean O'Malley fight he put a lot of respect to Sean's power and was on the outside waiting for him to overextend and capitalize by shooting a takedown. In Umar fight, he let him empty his gas tank in first two rounds, to dominate the later ones. If you think Umar won those rounds because he had genius gameplan, think again. He used his boxing(although he claimed his hand was broken), and wrestling(which tired himself out way more than Merab), instead of using his technique advantage and his kicks to the body to capitalize on his lack of defense and deplete his stamina.

The wrestlers are under more pressure to become well rounded while the strikers only train to keep the fight standing. You have strikers getting out struck at moments during fights but you'll never see the striker shooting a surprise takedown unless they are rocked

Merab would have a ton more fans if he took the Khabib approach to beat you into submission while gassing you out. Merab could probably finish a lot of people if he tried to later in his fights. And that's the thing I can't get over. Ray Longo screaming "4 more rounds like that!" after the first round vs Yan, not to try to finish him or anything, kills me.

I think styles make fights and Cory actually has a tricky style for Merab. Decent TDD, good cardio, best footwork at BW and great knees on short opponents.

umar is lazy by dagistany standards. he is capable of beating marab but i dont see the drive like i do from islam or khabib.
