It might have helped to follow if the thermoplastic mold was a different color then the silicon mold of the mold of the mold. All white hurt my brain!

Problem with using thermoplastic like this (in pliable form) — it tends to pull back from a mold as it cools. Also, soft molds require pushing the plastic into finer details, which distorts the shape of the final piece. Obvious when you wrap an object with it, the cooled plastic will always be loose fitting. Thermoplastic is very useful, but has its limitations.
