Marshall Vs Friedman

Not even close. Nearly 40 year old SS rules the day. Friedman amps always have a blanket over them sound.

The Marshall every time. Why? It's always had its Weetabix.

Deffo the marshall , the freidman is a muffled mess , sounds like a distortion pedal straight into the effects return on an amp

Was so excited to get a runt 20 in a trade. Was so disappointed in the friedman runt 20. Good clean and thin nasally dirty channel.Would never give up mesa rectoverb traded friedman for. Just not my thing. Marshall all the way.

Wow, going from the Marshall to the Friedman just sounds like you chucked a duvet over the mic. That mini Friedman is a brown eye alright...just not in the way they intended!

i have a reverb 12 and a master lead 30 and i know that thy are good. in your hands magical 😊 dunno like at all the cheap friedman

To be honest I wouldn’t have bothered doing that video because the Marshall is in a totally different league to that horrible Friedman thing.

damn i thought i had a lot of amps i have six amps mostly peavey 1 I just repaired and about to test the sound out after having redoing some bad soldering joints and finding a missing cable unpluged was boggleing my head over that one for months and finally got it to come on without cutting off now i have all 3 peavey supreme models unless theres one i forgot then i got a crate gx1200 h with built in overdrive bad ass amp loud as hell for crate you should try that one dave awesome amp with a mega distortion thrown in front of it kinda gets a Jimi tone to it the overdrive has a shape knob which i assume changes the tone i know your a fan of solid state amps peavey is awesome

The way they were set the Marshall sounded much better, however I think you need to tweak a little on the Friedman, turn up the treble some as it was very dark and dull while the Marshall had much more treble presense. I just think you need to give the Friedman a little more time to get dialed in then a comparison would be much fairer.

Sadly I think the Friedman just sounded badly designed - like they mated a stompbox to a power-amp without thinking tonally about the whole package, particularly the sound of the output stage. I knew when I saw that laptop power supply in the original review video that it all looked a bit off-the-shelf rather than "designed", and I feel that is how it sounded really.


The baby Marshalls always sounded like they were a proper, working amp and were an authentic part of the family and not just a badge on a toy. I feel like they'd have designed the whole thing end-to-end and I think you can hear that. After all a nicely designed practice amp is going to make you to want a bigger one and why not get that brand loyalty by making everything great from small to big?

One thing I gotta say though - watts don't definitively equal volume - they're part of the equation of course but they are never gonna be like-for-like on two differently made amps. I think the belief in watts=volume is how we got the "valve watts are louder" belief. Small watts will run out of sound at some point but watts alone do not make loud! Volume also depends what the designer of the amp did with the all components to get the maximum efficiency, including stuff like how well the speaker is matched to the output stage and how all that PSU juice gets through to the speakers etc. But it's always a bummer when an amp that should have a lot of juice can't deliver the goods!

Friedman was very dark and muddy the Marshall has nice highs even with all the crunch

No doubt the Marshall is better but you set the Friedman up to fail with your settings.

funny you say one lead 12 is brighter i have a white an red heads and a silver jubilee ministack lead 12 an they all different

Already commented on this Dave and said I did not like the tone or the tiny little dials. Sounds terrible over Face Tube and at $579 Au it’s over the top expensive considering I can pick up a Vox MV50 for less than half the cost of this and a Blackstar HT-1RH mall for &469 Au. I can even pick up a Vox AC10 Combo for roughly the same money. Ok I am getting carried away and this is only my opinion of course. 🇦🇺👍

true review, you take amp to a extreme w the setting and the play , wich is very diferent from store who has maybe post production and really cheat the review, you good my man.

The Marshall walked all over the Friedman. I think the JOYO Bantamp series sound a lot better than the little Friedman amp and are a hell of a lot cheaper. 🤘

It was literally like day and night...I suppose, I don't need to specify which one was day and which one night.

I have the Lead 12 stack, it is great. I also have a BE-OD pedal. The thing about the BE mini amp, to me it seems like they just basically slapped a power amp into the pedal. To me that's the same as running a BE-OD into the effects loop, I don't know anyone who would do that and maybe that's why it sounds poor?The BE-OD pedal can sound really good, went put into the front end of a good amp. The EQ is also a bit tricky to dial in, getting the right balance between bass, treble and tight controls - the tightness is the key to making it work, that and keeping the gain low.

The Friedman sounds like it has no brightness, as in it's all lower mids and bass. Marshall sounds way better imo. However I do say that the Friedman sounded quieter, so I'm not sure if my brain is saying "louder=better"

I agree with you completely. .,I would like to hear the same test with single coils ...but I suspect probably the same...I've never owned a marshall but I am hoping to get one soon

I've seen the and heard the friedman sound way better than this.

marshall...by 15 miles. Why? Because I love my master lead 30 and the BE sounded like a muffled mess.

35 years later and Friedman can't even get close to Marshall :/

I bought the Diezel mini 30 Watt head. I wouldn't recommend it. I don't plan on trying the Soldano, Friedman, or any other ones after the Diezel.

I love my Friedman JJ Jr. but I have to say this Marshall was way better than the Friedman mini. I'd be curious to know your opinion on some of the larger Friedmans compared to the larger Marshalls. TBH, I feel like this Friedman mini is a bit of a toy, but it should have been priced lower to reflect that, cause it feels more of a novelty item.

Very tempted to get a DSL 1HR and a 1 x 12 cab
