I'd respond by looking them in the eyes and say "youre not worth my time to respond to your disrespect" and walk away.

Not if you constantly and consistently abused by your mentally ill mother that made you emotionally unstable. Also, not everything is within your conscious control.

you can't generalize this, because context may widely vary and some situations might require you to react. Staying unresponsive is not an answer for everything, sometimes you may need to act with force if situation calls for it. You don't want to fall victim to whims of others provoking you, and yet you also don't want to allow others to overstep your boundaries, there needs to be a clear distinction between being too reactive or not being reactive enough. When situation calls for it you need to be assertive, but that doesn't mean you fall into control of others, it means you're reclaiming control of the situation, by decisive action.

But how to do so without stonewalling? There are people who do stay silent, but they stay silent the whole time and end up stonewalling, which is still a horseman for divorce, just as criticism and defensiveness are. Stonewalling damages the relationship just as much. It can come off as disrespectful.

Any time I reacted in a negative way to being disrespected’ I felt that the other person won’ they had control’ and with time I became better in those situations ‘ it does take discipline’ but you will be the better person for it

Well you will need to apply this when you are in America as a black person. It is so frustrating how much you will get disrespected and provoked. Passive aggression and micro aggressions is a white means way in a work place. If you keep quiet you are non-chalant, if you respond you are angry and scary. The white man will always think himself superior. The best thing is to move to another country where you can live peacefully as a child of God.

This is why modern times need God. There is a peace in knowing they are broken humans. There you find forgiveness like Jesus forgave those that hurt him. Your happiness is in forgiveness and the release of the hate that burdens you. It is hard so very hard to forgive and let go of the hurt when you want justice and revenge. But justice can not turn back time. And revenge makes you mirror the evil.

This advice is subjective. It sounds appropriate initially however afterwards confrontation may be necessary. Simply having self-control does not solve problems that involve other people.

I had done a lot of thing for my ex which was my coworker, even though she cheated on me I tried to forgive her, after that she learned the job from me entirely and in return forced my boss to keep me out of loop and sidelined me, it was so disrespectful because she replaced me with other coworkers and indirectly boosted their ego and finally damaged my reputation, stayed silent for 20 days then decided to walk away without even say goodbye, it’s 60 days that I am out, It was the best choice not confronting her. I left the story open ended.

Interesting. Why does the disrespect continue if the other person respects it.

This is a bit misleading. It is obvious that Lewis didn’t write these words. Yes, it is good to be silent in the face of disrespect. Our Lord Jesus showed that. But some of what is being taught here, I’m pretty sure CS Lewis wouldn’t agree with.

I perfectly understand. I've gone through some of this as well. When I didn't react to disrespectful people things were much better for me. Try not to react, or just let them know that you are not going to engage in their foolishness. There are people who will respect you. Spend more time with them. Being quiet when you're being disrespected is normally viewed as weakness and compliance as if you are agreeing with the person.... If you don't stand up then you become a Target....

It's better to say your piece and get the load off of your chest while looking them in the eye and being direct...

Bullies and those that disrespect people like to Target those people that are being quiet or trying to avoid them....

After you confront them and put them in their place if they continue to escalate the situation then you're in a better position to where you can either shrug them off and walk away telling them you ain't wasting your time arguing with them or escalate.... You Hammer home your points while taking the high road... The key to control is controlling your emotions....
