Would like to hear Andrew’s thoughts on sports attire (not limited to gymnastics) that is immodest by normal dress code standards... swimsuits, tri-suits, leotards, etc. As a triathlete, I understand the functional aspect, but would like to hear a more nuanced take that considers all aspects. The person asking the question used the logic often given for promoting modest dress (or one of the reasons, not the only reason). I know many Christian men go to great lengths to protect their heart/mind/soul from a lustful response to visual stimuli, especially those that have struggled with it in their past. Does this prevent them from watching those sports? What could be better while still maintaining optimal functionality? In professional triathlon there were certainly options that were more modest than others, not just one style that ruled them all … and things like wearing track suits before and after the race seem reasonable. Disappointing that an actual discussion on the topic was shutdown.

Highly recommend doing a paid SEM campaign for ‘Shawn Johnson beam’. It’s a highly googled term but when you google it, the drink doesn’t appear. I normally don’t do brand name search terms in an SEM campaign (rely on seo for that), but there is so much Shawn Johnson beam content that the drink is hard to find! (Good news is that if you just google ‘beam’ a drink ad appears. But add ‘Shawn Johnson beam’ to the campaign.)

As a former gymnast, I completely agree with Shawn on the leotard comment. It covers more than beach volleyball, yet gymnastics leotards seem to draw the questions and attention. Focus on the performance and not what is being worn.

It is incredibly refreshing that you two have built such a beautiful marriage based on mutual respect and faith. Now, getting sick of each other...take it from someone who's been married for 35 years (on May 19), I think it's natural to get "sick of" being with your significant other from time to time. It happens in families, so why wouldn't it happen in a marriage. My husband usually goes on a golf trip with his brother, at least twice a year for a week at a time. Do I miss him? Sure, but not in the way you think. It's the partnership and company that I miss. I REALLY enjoy my me time and doing and eating whatever I want for a solid week LOL. Listen, I've been with this man for over half of my life and can't imagine my life without him BUT it's really nice when he goes away for a while hahahaha and it's even better when he comes home ;)

And what about track and field outfits? They are for function.

Your body actually doesn't absorb the filler. It's been studied and shown that it actually clogs your lymphatic system. Hopefully there is a holistic way to encourage drainage! ❤️

She’s so dismissive of and angered by the revealing leotard question. It seems like a reasonable point to raise. They may be the most functional thing for gymnasts to wear but they are skimpy and skin tight. No need to attack someone for noticing.

A thought on the leotards, I agree they are the best for the sport and most gymnasts look amazing , however the current trend to yank them up their bums so they are essentially a thong is not appropriate and looks vulgar. And many gymnasts are dong this on purpose. Honestly, it demeans the talent and is way too revealing. I know there was a time they were making the leos be cut lower at the hip to help with this, but clearly that has laxed. So both things can be true...i could name gymnasts to reference but don't want to make this personal.

Yes! Shawn is so right about the issue the commenter brought up about the leotard. It is a uniform worn by an athlete competing in a sport. Stop sexualizing women athletes! If it’s distracting you from focusing on the sport, then you have a much deeper issue and need to fix that about yourself.

Not everyone has the money to wear a personalized leotard that fits like a second skin. Leotards often dont fit well, they reveal half of the butt, they need to be glued on the skin, girls need to shave their private parts as it is so revealing. Being on your period as young girl while wearing a leotard is awful. A unitard as well does only look good if it fits perfectly which is not affordable for everyone. I just dont understand why it is not allowed to wear shorts. Men wear shorts as well. This needs to change

I will say, if you lost everything it would change you. It cannot not change you. I’ve been in both situations…had money and no wants and then went to tough times and currently at 58 struggling financially. Even as I work my buns off. It gives a sinking scary feeling. Really thinking about how you spend your money. Food or heat or new clothes etc. It will change you as you are a human living in this time space reality. Plus you have children that you’ll do anything to give them a good life…but will have to make sacrifices if you lose everything. That said, I have faith God will provide as he is my source. Having a Christian practice is paramount in times of need. No judgement but, yes it will change you. Love watching you both and enjoy your thought provoking conversations. God Bless.

Women’s Water Polo have way more revealing outfits than gymnasts, and they choose to wear them that way, they’re not being forced. If they’re comfortable with it, that’s fine.

I completely but respectfully disagree with the Shaun’s leotard take. My daughter was a gymnast and watching the Leo’s get cut higher and more revealing was disheartening. They aren’t the same leo’s you wore and are much more akin to revealing swim bottoms. Gymnastics is a young girl sport for the most formidable years. Young girls are much too sexualized and should be protected from the ogling eyes of perverts.
Similarly how you are protective of your kids from any predators. You can’t put the responsibility it on a disgusting pervert to protect your child from their view, it just won’t happen.
Leos we’re fine back in your day, now is a different world, especially with the internet.
