It seems like there is an attempt to misconstrue this history by dismissing any organic movement at all, and that the entire counterculture was just a CIA psy-op, as opposed to a concerted counterintelligence response to anti-establishment movements. The idea that Deep State agents were "sneaking around Laurel Canyon" conducting clandestine operations was referenced by Zappa and his associate, bohemian Vito Paulekas, as well as the Fugs in CIA Man, as well as the reflections of Robert Anton Wilson, to name somen examples that immediately spring to mind. So at least some at the time were in-tune with the intelligence agencies co-opting the radical movements of the time.

One cannot overemphasize the fact that the FBI, CIA--indeed the entire corporate ruling class--feared most the Black Panthers and their support from Hollywood, connection to the Left and anti war movement and sympathy from the public (even as weak as it was, it scared them). All the crude references to "pigs" was a ham handed attempt to link the Black Liberation movement of the time with Manson, and scare the hell out of the Hollywood supporters.

Nobody was killed, but the public was traumatized by the story which put an end to the ‘peace and love’ hippy era.

I've watched a few of Mr. O'Neill's interviews now. It's scary to think that the state had this kind of mind control capability 60 years ago. Just imagine the tools that are available to them today.

One subject of the L.A. scene I am curious about that would seem to have been an intelligence asset is Eddie Nash. I wonder if any of Tom O'Niell's work has overlapped with him.

Tom O'Neill is one of the best because he is a detective and researcher as well as a writer.

Is this the whole interview? I prefer to watch entire interviews if I have the time. Jimmy chops them up, and usually he doesn't post the complete interview by itself (I wish he would).
