rule #1 if i have to fetch a ladder. it's in storage mode.
Ответитьwow this was boring
ОтветитьNext time you do something like this. set up the camera, and take a still shot every time you're out of frame while doing the work, Then, assemble them into a stop motion video.
ОтветитьI see that 2 drawer Kennedy box you have. I just procured a 520 model made back in the 1940s. It was from an estate sale from an older man who passed away. I paid $25 for it and it was FULL OF TOOLS! I thought about sending it over to you and now that I see you have the part to complete the set I'm even more compelled to send it over
ОтветитьAdam has So Much Different Tools ! I love watching to find out watch gadgets he has lol
ОтветитьHoarding means a lot of duplication. One reason for duplication is backups for when one fails. To handle that risk without the hoard getting in the way you pick the two most reliable, and useful ones, and warehouse the rest. Your shop is your neighborhood. You know where everything is. Your warehouse is the warehouse, and retail district across town. You know it has what you want but you don't know what store has it or where the store is. You map the warehouse like a street map, and each item has a street address, and even apartment numbers. Each set of shelves is a street block numbered 1000s, 2000s etc. Each shelf is like a floor of a building. Apartments' numbered the same way. First shelf is apartments 100, and second shelf are numbered the 200 apartments. You inventory alphabetically, and by category. The inventory list is your address book. When you want something you look up the name, and address. Like calling around the stores to find which one has it. The best machine shop I worked at had that kind of inventory address book hanging right next to the door of the tool room. We needed a hoard of some of the tooling. We gobbled up carbide tooling.
Unlike a store most of the tooling you bring back to the warehouse. Some toolrooms have a toolroom guy. We had to sign out the tools, and get a key for night shift. Pain in the ass.
June is re-org month for me! And at the end of the month we'll participate in a big, annual garage sale weekend so that OTHER people can store our stuff at THEIR houses. 😁
ОтветитьAdam, yours is the only workspace I know to be more cluttered than mine... 😀
ОтветитьLook at that Tetris stack of shelves at the beginning compared to how it looks at the end. XD
Ответить"Embalming Tools"?!
ОтветитьSo, tonight I went into my basement, looking for a tool. A few moments almost turned into two hours of reorganizing my toolboxes. Total flow. I must have been inspired.
ОтветитьI understand that there's a method to your madness, but for safety reasons I like to keep the heavy items near the bottom for two reasons. First it keeps the cabinet or shelves from becoming top heavy and second if something were to fall off the shelf or out of the cabinet I'd rather have it land on my foot than my head.
ОтветитьSometimes I find myself enjoying organizing the process more than actual making.
Ответитьcool
ОтветитьOrder, from cacophony.

ОтветитьBut honestly, do all of those multimeters or leads spark joy? Might be time to work in the ratio of stuff coming in and going out.
ОтветитьHere's a good question being San Fran, what have earthquakes been like in that shop, do you have anchors and earthquake straps and so on? Could make a good question answer episode.
ОтветитьI’m all about this. I’m slowly setting up my first shop. Mostly 3D printing, software, etc.
I like Jamie’s philosophy of having duplicates of things. At every workstation I have the basic tools that I would need.
I had a LOL moment... *lectures about optimum storage locations" - "Oh, THAT'S where that is!" 🤣
ОтветитьI was reminded by the outro that Tested used to sell pouch and bag patterns on their store. Isn't it the case anymore ?
ОтветитьThanks for this. I am reorganizing my digital storage and that sentence will come in handy "If I needed this again in the future, where would I look for it?"
ОтветитьOnce when moving I put a mounting bracket is a super clever place where I certainly would easily find it again. It’s been 12 years and I still haven’t found it.
ОтветитьLiking the assembly music in this video.
ОтветитьGreat 😊❤
Ответить2 quick things:
1) That white shelf rack has a bow in it that concerns me from the potential weight. It looks like it's particle board and that's a timebomb waiting to go bad...
2) I can't remember if you've mentioned it, but how do you secure the higher up things (especially heavy/dangerous fall hazards) when our Bay Area goes shaky-shaky?
i dont see one, but id love a shop infrastructure playlist. I have continued to redo my space over time and some of it is things ive learned from adam. id love to see all of them in one playlist to make it easier to find.
ОтветитьIt is funny because this last weekend I just thought on doing the same in my shop, reorganizing my stuff and tools and taking things I was not using frequently to my back deposit. I am still in the process of making the boxes and tool holders to the ones that will stay close to my workbench, but it is delightful to see things getting organized, at last!
ОтветитьMy mom passed away this week. We used to love watching your videos together. On her last day, she was struggling to breathe. She wasn’t verbal anymore, but we wanted to reassure her . We figured it would help relax her to hear comforting, normal voices, so we played a Tested video and just chatted around her like we normally do. A few minutes later, she relaxed and took her last breath.
Thank you for years of good-humored kind-hearted information.
Have you ever considered "Deaccessioning" items you feel you may no longer need? How hard would it be to add say, an auction section to your Savage Ind. Store?
ОтветитьIve always wondered about the floor in this shop. Why is it plywood and why does it sound so hollow? It must be very sturdy to handle the weight of some of those huge machines but... it sounds hollow!
ОтветитьMy Hammer drill and associated serious demo kit lives in a high shelf in a big cupboard that I need steps to get to, 3rd order retrieval?
