Inside Yishun’s SECRET Japanese Community | Foreigners in Heartland Singapore

Just a few weeks ago, My mom and I went to a neighbourhood hawker centre to eat. A Japanese couple was seated at The next table. My mom asked why were there Japanese here😅 funny. I told her now there are even Japanese hawkers so I guess we have to get used to Japanese living in our heartlands. Prior to this I also have a Japanese friend who worked here as a non expat. She also told me Singaporeans are very direct ppl...After some time she also adopt our direct communication style. There's a way to be direct yet not blunt or rude 😊

I find the premise for this video hilarious. I'm Singaporean. Let me put this into perspective for non-Singaporeans. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is a good looking female walking around at 3am in the morning alone unarmed and being totally safe , a 7 is no leaving the home at night due to predators and 10 a war zone. Yishun is a 1.000000001 and the most dangerous places in Singapore would be about 2.5. The reason Yishun gets labeled the most dangerous neighborhood in Singapore is a local meme.

You know that they have integrated into the community well, when they are defensive of Yishun how the locals there are.
It's not so much anymore, but Yishun used to be so isolated compared to other estates.

Those people who label Yushun as dangerous are just brainless. Just because of one foreigner- a Chinese man from China who murdered his girlfriend who was also a Chinese from China, and it was a personal one-off thing. As they both happened to rent a flat in Yishun, he committed the crime in that flat. If they had stayed in, say, Jurong and he committed the murder there, can we say Jurong is dangerous too? No.

the Japanese community in 2000 - 2010 used to centre around River Valley Road where Japanese homemakers will go to Meidiya every day.. I miss them T.T
