ALTENA | POSTCARDS FROM GERMANY 2021 | COOKING FROM THE LOFT

On this excursion, Lena and I visit the Altena Castle in, you guessed it, Altena. Altena is a town in the district of Markischer Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The castle is the origin for the latter Dukes of Berg (no relation) and was built in the early 12th century. Interesting point of note (I thought), the castle was the world's first youth hostel in 1912. October being off season, Lena and I practically had the entire place to ourselves! A lovely lunch of Jagerschnitzel made for a perfect day.
