AND it's trash.

It can be both.

It is a deeply flawed book that I had a great time reading. Brain off, no thoughts, vibes only.

I gave up on it a few chapters in. Couldn’t take the lazy exposition in the parapet scene and the way every character talks. Like. This. Frequently. It’s an objectively bad book but I can see why people like it in the same way we can like bad tv shows or movies.

I agree, I am 100% a fantasy nerd. Keep fighting the good fight Matt, you know your audience and its honest folks like you that stop me potentially wasting my time on hidden romance novels 😂

My girlfriend has read every period drama ever! Her favourite book of all time is Pride and Prejudice. She enjoyed all the Twilights, 50 shades etc when she was a teen. She is absolutely obsessed with Fourth Wing. Everything she tells me about it just sounds like a load of cheesy nonsense. I’ve tried convincing her to read the main big series (First law, Stormlight etc) and when I explain them to her she literally couldn’t care less.

This is the most chaotic review i've seen on booktube. Felt more like listening to a discord voice conversation where everyone talks at the same time. 🤣😂

I'm glad Fourth Wing got more people to read and possibly pick up fantasy. I'm with you though, I don't read romance and I just skimmed the lusty parts. I'm definitley the opposite of your wife and friend and I ONLY wanted the dragons and war concept. This book opened my eyes to the fact I won't be aligned with fantasy romance hype. Throne of Glass was minimal romance and I loved that series. I don't think I could stomach Court Of Thorns and Roses. Ultimately, I should have just spoiled myself on the story and saved the reading time for something else...

This was gold. I also read this book with my fiance who loved it and I also gave the first book 2 stars much to her chagrin. I will say that I thought the second book is an improvement over the first in terms of the plot and worldbuilding. None of the plot holes you addressed were explained and although Xaden did get a lot more fleshed out, none of the other characters really did. It was a 3 star read, but I'd recommend you continue since the experience of reading along with loved ones is worth it!

I don't really see these Romantasy books as fantasy, but a romance novel with fantasy sprinkled on it.

And no, I'm never ever gonna read this - currently reading Seeds of War and The Sword Defiant...that's my kind of fantasy

I wanted to like it but I stopped half way. I'll finish it eventually. It seems like a good introduction to fantasy for romance readers however I didn't think the author did either well with this book.

Dain was very Gayle from hunger games. I feel like it was obvious she wasn’t going to be with him. Always knew she would end up with Xaden. And yes knew she would bond with Tairn the second he was mentioned. That’s seemed obvious too. Brennan shocked me. Maybe it shouldn’t have.

Matt, I cracked up thru this video. I could never do this with my wife, our reading tastes are miles apart. So, you are lucky in that respect. You have to ease them both into better fantasy. Then do another video.

I don't mind the romance in the book but the writing is soooo bad. I find the way things are described confusing and jarring. I either have to reread a paragraph hoping for clarification or I'm taken out of the book by her word choices: "Oren's eyes fly wide," "I pin my gaze," "Curiosity flares in his eyes." Also the characters don't have their own voices and personalities, at least not consistently. Tairn is supposed to be one of the most powerful dragons and in the middle of a battle he says "Got it." Really? That's what he would say? There's so much potential and I love the plot. I want to know more about Xaden's past and the whole rebellion but I just find the writing so tedious to get through.

No offense to the two people who are wrong in this video, but Forth Wing was terrible. I can't believe you gave it two stars, Matt! :D

As a long time romance reader, and newer adult fantasy reader, this book just wasn't good. It was very predictable and just not well written or plotted. I think I gave it a 2.5 then sold the book. I have zero intention of continuing the series.

Loved watching the chaos of this "review". I am not enjoying fourth wing.Too many unanswered questions about this world, and, while you were keeping track of the f bombs I gave up counting how many times Violet would say how hot Xaden was. It annoying - the story gets interesting and then ....I and three other women i know do not get the hype

I tried to read it. It was awful. It is a romance. Period. It just happens to be set in a fantasy world. If you like romance, you'll like this. If you like some romance as a tiny sub-subplot in your otherwise fantasy story, you'll be thinking "WTF am I reading?" The dragon sex affecting their bonded humans is super cringe and yeah... that was too much.
