I wish we could get the ID7 here in the US!

Shell Recharge really needs to improve their mobile app; I can't even login since I can't paste my password from a password manager!

sucks about the race.
Your channel shows that even if it dose not have the range needed it can still be done. I hope designers for charging parks think of trucks as well when designing stations.
Even in the US we have chargers with batteries because even here it is hard to get the power you want at the optimal location for chargers but you can get lower power connections.

As a brit I'm sorry that you had to experience the inexpensive and highly developed UK charging infrastructure 🤣. The vehicles move on at pace but nothing else does.

Car manufacturers REALLY need to sort out these CANBUS error messages; I had been struggling with one all through May - luckily now resolved - similar to yours, it manifested as a "Check electrical system" warning; however the fault code could be one of DOZENS of faults, battery voltage too high, battery voltage too low, short to ground, communications errors - basically nearly everything that could possibly go wrong with an EV was covered by this one code (Kia).

I was fairly certain it was a communication error, as the first time it happened, there were some other communication error warnings, but they cleared and never returned - possibly because I used electrical contact cleaner on the DC charge port contacts (hadnt been used in over a year).

Despite the warning being potentially dire, I wasnt too worried, as it was only occurring after a charging session using my brand new OrientRise CCS2 to CHAdeMO adapter, and the fault cleared if I charged directly with CHAdeMO.

After some data logging submissions, and responding firmware updates, the 3rd firmware update fixed the issue, and now the error is gone; kudos to OrientRise, they were responding with new firmware within 8 hours of me submitting the data logs; far faster than I was able to actually go test the firmware updates; there are only 2 chargers near me, both in near constant use, so it was a 30mile/40KM round trip to the nearest multi-charger location.

..............................................................................................................................

In your case, I would check the 12v battery terminals, one recurring issue I had when I first bought my Kia, was being caused by the awful design of the cable clamps - they kept working loose and buggering up the electrical systems - and also chewing up the terminals on the 12v battery itself.

Even at maximum tightness, I could twist the clamp around the battery terminal post just using my hand.

I had to replace an otherwise, perfectly good 12v battery, replace the clamps, AND make some copper shims to ensure the new clamps gripped the battery terminals securely.

In 40 years of car ownership, I have never seen such a shit, battery clamp design.

i'm not understanding how you could charge at 43kw from a 22kw chargepoint... is it because of 240v vs 450v?

More efficient then burning the diesel in the truck? This statement is crazy. Electric trucks are less efficient than diesel trucks if you charge them from public chargers. Around 33 l/100 km if you convert the cost of charging in diesel compered with 25-27 l/100 km for a fully loaded diesel truck.

The switches and buttons for the controls are much better and safer than touch screens, in my opinion.
Everything gets strangled by bureaucracy. I thought Britain was bad but if you suffer in the Netherlands, too, then it is not just here.
If power supply was sufficient on board, the 8 hour ferry crossing would be a good place to recharge, but it is unlikely to happen as it would need a large increase in generator capacity.
British charging infrastructure is still expensive and insufficient.
Drive safely🚚

UK parking restrictions are due to the entire sites parking enforcement being sold off to a bunch of cowboy crooks. Its like this everywhere. They have not been forced to change this by the government. And nothing is taking EV's into account regarding how long any EV might require to charge up.

Note when in UK. These site parking restrictions. They can not issue fines. They issue a invoice & paying can be avoided, the only way they can force payment is to take you to court & get a CCJ issued, but as non uk they won't bother. Only council parking sites & courts can issue fines.

There seems to be a design flaw with the battery system in all EVs. Most people think it just has one big battery, but in fact it still has a 12V battery and that does all the important stuff. All the usual ancillaries such as remote door locking, immobiliser, headlights, wipers, heater fan, radio, heated windows, cameras, etc are powered by the little 12V battery. The big battery powers the motor and charges the little 12V battery, however I suspect that the charging current is limited so as not to deplete the main battery too much. The 12V battery is only charged when the vehicle is switched on, which seems to be the design flaw because it should be charged when you are charging the main battery. If you run for a short period of time, such as 30 minutes, there is not enough time for the main battery to charge the 12V battery, especially if the !2V battery is powering headlight, heater, wipers etc.

Sounds about average for Shell. What amazes me, is that you found one that worked. Like BP and Total, Shell bought a number of successful charging companies and within a year, had quadrupled their tariffs. But worse, when their branded chargers malfunction, they doesn’t get fixed for months, sometimes many months.

No. Where Brexitania is involved, it’s absolutely about bureaucracy. The British are useless when it comes to free-flowing information to easy the import-export of goods.

Even although I don't own an EV, I'm an avid EV supporter and enthusiastically watch many videos on EV's and read many articles as I know this is what has to happen in the world as our world has been polluted for so long.
I get soooo angry when I see ICE vehicles parked with their engines running. It is illegal to do so in the UK but there are so many ignorant and inconsiderate people here who just don't care. They are probably blissfully unaware that they are actually seriously damaging our atmosphere.

I think those parking restriction signs are "standard EV charger" signs that have been made assuming that you're going to be charging a car (which is unlikely to require more than an hour of charging on a fast charger). It's designed to stop people abusing the system by setting a user override on the charging rate (this was definitely possible on a Polestar 2 that I hired (rented); I don't know if it applies to other makes/models). For example, you could set a max. 7 kW charging rate and get many hours of "free" parking because your car is still technically charging.

I had the worst experience so far driving an electric BMW I5 that I rented (not by choice, they swapped it from the tesla I ordered). It had a horrible charge curve. Several charge companies in the UK didn't accept credit cards from Australia. Ionity was the worst! And several companies' chargers, which I had to download the app, wouldn't allow me to because google Play said this app is not for your country.

The BMW itself drove like a house boat and had several features like adaptive cruise that didn't work because you have to have a subscription to use it. The car also had less storage space than a model 3 which we got later on with all cases housed in the boot or frunk. The bmw had two cases in the back seat.
