Like that meal was a emotional and mental break of eating little to no food cause I saved up by working overtime at my job. The whole "tipping" thing makes me also mad that in the US it's a social norm to tip. And if you don't you can be looked down apon harshly.

There's a legitimate problem in the food service industry in America. Tips always should be an added personal bonus for an exceptional service. Not an expectation and certainly not your wage..

In the Japanese "abusive" restaurants, you get good food. So I think that amy's baking company would never work.

I remember one time I was working for a restaurant that was owned by my cousin/godfather and like, I was there as a barista, make smoothies, frappucinos, orange juice, those kinds of thing. I was working with ONE blender and never missed an order, thats how efficient I was. I still was searched through the restaurant to take the trash, because "I wasnt doing anything" when I finished all my stuff and I never got an extra, that was never in my job description, and a few times I hid in the back and the manager came all the way to the back just to find me, when there was a few other people that could do it, bu he went out of his ways to just obligate me to do it. I hated that job and I quit after a few months, I was doing everything I can to be a good barista, but you are not even giving me a second blender at the very least, I am out.
