I do agree that childcare costs in the UK are astronomical and it shouldn’t be this way. But I do also think individuals need to take responsibility here and budget before getting pregnant. It’s not the government’s responsibility to bail people out because they made life choices they couldn’t afford.

I'm a Brit living in Eastern Europe, it is no problem at all for the average earner here to afford food and heating. The Tories have inflicted such harm on the British people that former communist Eastern Europe is a more comfortable and easier place to live. Let that sink in.

Maybe this will encourage women to stop opening their legs at every chance.

Childcare costs us 272euro per month here in Ireland for one child, thats for 40hrs of care per week!
It's due to decrease further in Ireland but we'd consider that pretty affordable.

So because the middle class struggle now child care is an issue. It has always been difficult to afford childcare. And I am in support of the childcare industry because it is not an easy job. Those might middle class should have think about that before. The working class has always struggled. Many documentaries were made about this issue for the past 12 years +.

Some people may not like this i am a stay home mom and I live on child support and child care allowance. I don't plan on working until my children start school. My inhertance paid for my house. It woukd be a lot more expensive if i had to pay daycare right now. To me i am making the right choice.

Folks trying to put 5 pounds of sugar into a life that can only hold 2 pounds and then crying that its unfair. Child care providers do a very tough job with an extremely high level of responsibility and accountability. If the slightest thing goes wrong with a parents child they can expect lightning bolts raining down from heaven. They should be paid accordingly for that level of responsibility. Just cause parents need it doesn't mean it should automatically trivially inexpensive to acquire.

Why have so many kids if you cant afford them? If you can only afford one, only have one.

Whining about child care costs isn't going to help. Think creatively! There are lots of elderly who can't afford heating or housing. Why not set up a program where the elderly get housing in exchange for offering reduced or free childcare?

She can have three kids, but not stand by the man or men who she made them with. No pity for single mothers.

There is no such thing as hard up parents especially in a two income household what with all the free handouts they recieve on top of their wages. When my daughter was born in 2001 I was on £14560.00 a year. There were no free handouts then. The problem with parents today is they waste their money on stupid pointless rubbish. Booze and tattoos for one. Then they wonder why they are always broke.

In Australia we pay $750 per week net. Not discounts or subsidies. The system is a wrought, we pay hightaxes and get nothing out of it.

I waited to have children until I made 100k+. Best decision ever and had my baby at 36 yrs old. I definitely see young parents giving me the look but I worked so hard to be where I am and I know my value and worth.

This is just one situation the government have 0 answer to... 6.5K is nothing when the annual bill is 24K, still leaves you with about 1,450pm in costs. I've done without many things in life as times get harder and harder, one by one cutting back and knocking off any sense of enjoyment in life off the list. Those applying the shrinkflation mentality on this aspect of life need to get theyre head screwed as simply saying don't have kids is not a suitable compromise.

a parents keep saying to childfree people, having kids are a blessing, and selfish not to have them and god will provide....I love being childfree and freeeeeeeee
