What if we have 2 children, but my firstborn is from a previous relationship.... do I include $4000 on my husbands updated W-4 and mine? Or, because I claim my firstborn at my job and he claims our second son at his job, he should only put down $2000 and I also only put down $2000 for mine if filing married jointly? Thanks!
ОтветитьWhen I check box C of step 2 on w4 , how should I fill second page ? (Step 2(b). Should I leave it blank then ? My husband’s and mine pay is same
ОтветитьThank you for your video. I have a few questions? First, with the video you provided above, should the spouse who makes the most fill this out like you presented or should both fill out the W-4 form the same? If the answer is only the larger income earner than what should the smaller income earner put down?
ОтветитьThanks for the video Katie. Do you have a video to go thru the Tax Withholding Estimator?
ОтветитьWhat
ОтветитьOk
ОтветитьMy only question is that if we are filing jointly do we BOTH put the $2000 on the kid line or are we covered if one of us do it since we are filing together?
ОтветитьIs this video an example equivalent to claiming zero on the old form OR is it equivalent to claiming the highest number possible (perhaps 3 with this example of two-income household with one dependent)?
ОтветитьWhose W4 does that 4c extra amount go on? Despite the instructions seeming to indicate the higher paying job, my husband is trying to insist it goes on mine, when he makes 10x what I do. He makes 85000/yr as a full time worker and I'm a less than part-time substitute preschool teacher who made just under $8500 for the entire year (the year before that I didn't even make $5000)... I may or may not even get a paycheck depending upon if I am called to work or not.
ОтветитьAfter 18 years my employer suddenly stop withholding federal from my paycheck. when I asked why they told me to seek a tax professional and complete a new W4. I had never completed a W4 like this...i was used to my employer calculating everything for me...well I'm glad I came to the right place. Hopefully we won't owe as much at the end of THIS year. Thank you for a very informative easy to follow video. Much blessing!
ОтветитьThank you soooo much I was bumping my head with this form couldn’t figure it out. But you made it so simple to understand Thank you!
ОтветитьIf only one person works do you still do the thing on page 4
ОтветитьHi i have a question it looks like i filled out the form correctly i entered 6,000 because i have 3 kids but i realized that i have no federal coming out from mt account do you know why?
ОтветитьWhat if my husband is self employed but we file jointly?
ОтветитьHi there! If married filing jointly, and both of us check 2C, would we BOTH put the respective extra withholding number (4C) on our W4s, or just one of ours?
ОтветитьBoth of us work (one higher paying than the other), with one child. We will be filing married jointly on tax season. DO WE BOTH PUT 2000 on OUR W4 under our 1 dependent? or one should put 0. Thanks
ОтветитьTHANK YOU JESUS
ОтветитьHow do you fill this out with 5 kids
Ответитьthank you
ОтветитьI have been in tears the last two days. We checked our taxes a few days ago and found my wige set hers up wrong, and has not been paying amy federal this last year. We will owe close to 8k next tax season because of this, and I have been so stressed. This video is so straight forward. Next tax season is gonna suck, but 2025 and beyond will hopefully be much mpre accurate. Thank you so much!!!!
ОтветитьI want to make the change in 2025 because I’m about to have a baby. If we file married jointly, one income my spouses and 2 dependents would we have to pay at the end of year?
ОтветитьThis video literally lifted so much stress off of my shoulders; we will still owe a bit, but at least moving forward, things will be better!
ОтветитьVery helpful- thank you, Katie!
ОтветитьHi Katie, in your opinion. I am married with 4 children & my wife doesnt work. How many allowances should i claim?
ОтветитьWhat if i am a 1099 and I don't take a salary. everything is through the LLC. ?
ОтветитьIf spouse #1 enters the "$321" for extra withholding, what should spouse#2 put on their W4? To me, it looks like you are deduction the total income on one W4?
ОтветитьHi Katie, so the higher paid spouse inputs $321 with on 4C for option B (step 2), and what about the lower paid spouse? Will the lower paid spouse only simply select “married filing jointly” and input “0” on 4C and simply submit with the signature?
ОтветитьThank you so much for sharing this. I will do my homework. I appreciate it.
ОтветитьDo I do this on both forms mine and my husbands ? or who claims the 2 job, the explanation was great but do we both add the second job on our forms or just the one with the highest income
?
great video!! I want to make sure I'm understanding this right. The 8,340 is the total taxes needed for both people working or is it 8,340 for each person for a total of 16,680 due at the end of the year? Hopefully this makes sense 🙂
ОтветитьThis was great! I took notes. Thank you so much!
ОтветитьHey so he make more so i would only do the table chart for him on his form and i should just check the box and leave the rest blank, correct?
Ответитьthis may be a dumb question but does the other spouse also have to fill out the w4 in this exact same way? or does 1 person's w4 account for both spouses because of that extra withholding?
ОтветитьThank you so much !
ОтветитьMy employer has not taken any federal witholdings this year or last year..but I did find 2 paychecks from this year where they did deduct federal.
Why only 2 checks and not all of them???
Do I have to do step 2 if my husband and i both have a job or is it optional and can i just move on to step 5?
ОтветитьGreat explenation on these confusing forms! The only question I have is my job pays weekly and my wifes is bi weekly. How do I fill that out when both are different?
ОтветитьI did this on my new job this month. Married filing joint - $4000 2 boys under 17 - $500 for my wife unemployed. Total $4500.
After receiving my first paycheck I noticed the Status was Single and Federal Income $0.00. Did I fill out my W4 incorrect or did accounting messed up on my check? Please need help.
Hi what if we are filing married filing joint with only 1 kid can we put 1000 each on line 3?
ОтветитьIf I want my taxes at $0 and I’m claiming 2 children how does that affect my number on line 4c ?? Thank you
ОтветитьThanks @KatieStOresCFPChFCEA I hope you will also have a video for the married filing jointly version for: husband is retired and receiving Social Security benefits and wife work one full time job and a part time (or per diem) job.
ОтветитьThank you so very much.
ОтветитьThis was extremely helpful. Probably the best example. Can you show how each spouse would fill out the new w4... higher paying spouse and lower paying spouse.
Thanks!
What if married filing jointly but one spouse gets paid bi-weekly and the other, weekly?
ОтветитьMy question is do we need to fill this W-4 same for both jobs? I.e. both spouse have to fill same?
ОтветитьThank you for this helpful video, we have 2 kids only one parent claim them correct? thanks again!!
ОтветитьHello Katie,
If we get a salary increase after January 1st, say in April, should we still put 26 pay periods, or the Remaining pay periods for the year (i.e., April-December)?
Also, the spouse has to fill the W4 form in the same way correct? Which means, our spouse also needs to take his salary Plus mine into account and use the worksheet?
So helpful! Thank you for this video!
