Olympic Opening Ceremonies Highlights 01 (1/2)

I remember most of these - one rule to remember is, if you're going to release doves like they did in Korea, do it AFTER you light the torch. Otherwise many of those doves might perch on the rim of your torch bowl, and when that torch is lit...well, as one newspaper writer commented at the time, "Dove Chars"...

I just saw Rafer Johnson last night...he looked in great shape.

The arrow did "hit" the target...let me explain...the arrow crosses a curtain of gas, and, obviously, it starts the fire. An indirect way to light the olympic flame. I liked those ceremonies, each and everyone has its special touch. I liked at lot Barcelona92, Seoul88, Athens2004...and a little less the Americans...sorry!

Barcelona supuso un antes i un despues en la historia de los juegos olimpicos, en todos los aspectos. Y a quien le pese esta gran verdad que se chupe un pie.

Y añado: Como gran fan de Queen y de Freddie Mercury me siento honradisima de que freddie compusiera junto con mike moran ,Barcelona. Y que grandes las "amigos para siempre" tanto la de los manolos como la de carreras.

Como pierde belleza las ceremonias hechas de día, no? Lo de Moscú, mucha participación de la gente, eso estuvo bonito. En cuanto a ceremonias, las de Atenas, y China, han sido INSUPERABLES y sobre encendidos de pebetero, Barcelona.

no creo que la de barcelona haya sido la mejor porque la flecha paso de largo y nunca entro en el pebetero, creo que despues de ver la de china sera muy dificil superarla en todos los sentidos organizacion, personal, dinero, tegnologia, ahora dejo en muchos aprietos a londres 2012, humilde opinion

Beijing supero 10 mil veces a Barcelona y Seoul fue increible tambien. Pero la illuminacion de la antorcha olympica de Barcelona fue la mejor!

Because the way of doing great ceremonies started in Moscow, despite many people believe that it was in LA '84. Before Moscow the Opening Ceremnies were the parade and some artistic performance.

En muchos aspectos los juegos olimpicos son una demosracion de fuerza del pais que los organiza,salvo la flecha que NUNCA entro al pebetero,la inaguracion de Barcelona ha sido LA MEJOR hasta el momento porque a diferencia de Pekin fue una demostracion de ARTE no de fuerza como nos quisieron impresionar los chinos,que nos quieren demostrar que seran el proximo enemigo a vencer en todos los campos,hubo algo de arrogancia escondida entre tanta vistosidad...

the only thing i personally liked about barcelona was the whole mediteranean sea part of the pageantry. but of course, the lighting of the cauldron of barcelona was the best lighting ever! and I agree on Beijing. it would have been better had it not tried to strive to be so perfect. Sydney was the best opening ceremony ever imo! athens believe it or not had the best closing ceremony imo.

Seoul's torch lighting was realy cool. Barcelona's was just incredible

I loved Barcelona, but I'm spanish, so I'm not objective XD We had Ryuichi Sakamoto, Freddy Mercury composed a beautiful song, and everything was very artistic. Installations and architecture were also spectacular, just try to search "torre de calatrava", or "villa olimpica barcelona" on google images. The Olympic stadium may look modest, but it was constructed respecting the appearing of the old stadium from 1929, also very artistic I think.

BARCELONA the best by far (opening and closing ceremony) americans are great spectacle producers for sure, and orientals have a sense for beauty BUT barcelona had beauty, spectacularity AND feeling. and the music of barcelona 92!!! superb!!! not the usual commercial crap

I think the 2016 olympics will be chosen between Rio and Chicago. Tokyo has lost support from the city, and Madrid is in Europe, and the IOC tends to avoid having consecutive olympics on the same continent (2012 London Olympics)

I still think it was a tactical error to set the doves free before lighting of the fire in Seoul '88. I still love the Barcelona opening, it was spectacular! Thanks for including Freddie Mercurys' voice and the archer who sets the fire is still amazing.If I remeber correctly, he was a paraolympics athlete. Great video!

Moscow 1980 - Well-organised, strict, simple, beautiful, one of my best (4,5*) Los Angeles 1984 - Kitschy, lame, the american style (2*) Seoul 1988 - Pretty, oriental, but nothing really deserving to be reminded (3*) Barcelona 1992 - Kicks ass at some parts, really original, but there are details that really overcome my taste (boats etc.) (3,5*)

@queenmusicfreak86 From moscow I know only that those Games was so connected with communist and the most politician from Berlin 1936 .. And u called them as the best ? When representative of my country (Kozakiewicz) was fighting for Olympic medal, whole stadium was against him so when finaly get it he showed them what he fought about them by famous "kozakiewicz gesture" :D The CCCP and the rest of communist coutries have no trully reason for LA absent !

@aqu32 I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you! How could I? I'm a huge admirer of Poland and Polish culture..I wasnt making a politic speech.. I was just commenting the artistic part of the Soviet ceremony.. It was perfect organised and executed from my point of view.. Yet, it was not the best as Athens realy kicked ass ;-) --see my comments on the second part.
