Hi Capt... this is another great how-to-do-stuff video! The hot-knife melting slits for your equipment is a great idea, invented by you! ... Thank you!

I use manual inflation too, because i have a pilot house boat, if i ever capsize, i would not be able to escape if the vest automatically inflately.
Same reason helicopter pilots dont wear auto inflating secumar.

Yo said a key word here and it was ""IM ALONE IN THE BOAT"", I think it bettrr for you the automatic, just in case you get knocked over unconsious overboard this thing will inflate automatic and save your life. If it does inflate automatic and later you need to swim to the boat, just deflate it or take it off if you need 2. I have swimed with this type of vest and best way it to swim backwards, laying on your back, kicking feet and moving arms front to back

I think by adding the electronics and cutting into the vest your voiding the warranty right ???

If you want the air cylinder not to rust, take it out and paint it with antirust paint. Works well and it dont do any harm. Best not to have any oils touching the vest or liner.

There goes your warranty. There is a sailing version of this vest it’s the exact same thing and has 2 D rings on it for securing things or yourself to a line. It’s from Mustang I have it.

Saludos Capitan!!!!

Great video as always! The only thing the automatic vest are better if you would hit you head or become unconscious for some reason and fall in the water it would inflate by it' self , But I see your point also. You just have to pick what's best for you. Oh and I don't know if I would have stabbed your old vest, You could have keep it for a spare, But it was fun watching you do it! Thanks for sharing! 😎👍

The only downside to those vests are that they could lose air and thus not float anymore. It happened to 2 sherrifs who went overboard a few years back off the coast of Florida - they said it only lasted inflated about 45 minutes. You should have an orange life vest Type1 CG approved as well handy just in case for those long trips you take. If something happens you'll likely be floating out there for a few hours or more before help arrives.

For the kind of boating Cap'n does - open ocean - I would prefer a lifejacket that incorporated a harness. In some circumstances, a harness with tether plus thoughtfully placed on-deck bails can add to on-deck safety, especially in rough or foul weather. FWIW I've never gone offshore without a harness/lifejacket combo and a tether at hand.
