I love this song, too. But, unfortunately, this is a short version that doesn't include the excellent instrumental in the middle. That's one of my favorite parts of the song.
ОтветитьThe singer said he wrote to his 6 year old self
ОтветитьThis was our graduating class theme song in high school, and the prom theme. Brings me back.
ОтветитьI thought they were Angeles, but much to my surprise I climbed aboard their star ship and headed for the skies. They were talking about aliens.❤
ОтветитьAside from how much I love this song, young Dennis DeYoung was beautiful. He still is actually.
ОтветитьYa have to listen to Tommy Shaw of Styx.. “ Renegade” “Blue Collar Man”
“Come Again” with Damn Yankees.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised! 😀
"I love his performance style." Dennis thought of himself as a classically trained rock artist who loved to write Rock Opera. Deep thinker/story teller.
May have caused the breakup of the band because of the direction he wanted to go with "operatic" storytelling
whereas his band members (Tommy Shaw, James Young, & Chuck Panozzo) tended more to Rock.
I really love your channel! I've been coming back to it everyday since discovering it. I can feel your openness when it comes to your personal feeling about the songs you feature and not just as a vocal coach. I'm really surprised that you haven't done anything with Supertramp yet. Both singers are wonderful, but my favorite would be Roger Hogdson. I would love to hear and see your reaction to "School" or "Fool's Overture". Again, great work and I'm hooked!
ОтветитьRock and Roll Hall of Fame do it!
ОтветитьThe most theatrical voice in history....
ОтветитьPlease watch “ Return To Paradise” Live album with Dennis DeYoung. It’s excellent
ОтветитьI was born in '74 and had inherited my parents' old [portable] 8‐track in the '80s, which included STYX "Grand Illusion" Ohhh man! Thanks for this!
ОтветитьI love this song also and I sometimes hear it on the radio like you I grew up with cassettes also Dennis De young is so good in this performance and the opening part with the piano is great also my favorite song from Styx is Renegade which is a perfect rock song in my opinion
ОтветитьYou say the piano play is elegant? You have not seen or heard their live performance of "Lady". Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw might have fallen out, but the bugger is a master pianist. The intro to that song is nothing short of epic. And deserving of one of your astute reactions.
Ответитьi saw them in madison square garden around 1979, in their prime. Was pretty cool.
ОтветитьI can't watch/listen to this without thinking of Cartman. Maybe I will speed it up to 2X for the full effect.
ОтветитьI love your reacts, but I'm not sure why you often question if this is live. In this era, there were great musicians, songwriters, and singers. I saw a lot of these bands in the 1970's and 80's and they often sounded better live than on albums. So it might be that they are just great. Styx is only NOT in the rock hall of fame because they were from the Midwest and Midwest bands were not respected like east coast or west coast. That is just the reality.
ОтветитьThis song means a lot to mean. I've asked my kids to have it played at my funeral.
ОтветитьStyx's harmonies live incredible. With 3 lead singers in the band they sound amazing live. Tommy Shaw also has a great voice perhaps as good or better than Dennis DeYoung.
ОтветитьIt’s crazy and I love it that the song ends with aliens lol
ОтветитьI can't take all the stopping and critiquing every 2secs... You lost me.. Bye
ОтветитьSo good
ОтветитьI hate this format... you brake into much! I cant enjoy the music.
ОтветитьThey are really good live
ОтветитьTaking it to the streets by Michael McDonald is awesome. It is a great piano song like this one.
ОтветитьThe first time I heard this song I was in seventh grade. What a great age to hear this song. It is so beautiful. You are right annunciation is so appreciated by me.
ОтветитьI would love to hear the piano intro on a harpsichord.
Ответить...that drummer cameo at "...skies!" also...
ОтветитьDennis had no interest in rock and roll. He wanted to be on Broadway. It pissed Tommy off
ОтветитьIt’s too bad Styx had a fallout as a band. Tommy Shaw not liking the direction DeYoung was taking them. Not rock n roll enough for Tommy!
A great band but not the same without each other in concert.
U should listen to Pieces of eight omg 😳 beyond awesome song and Dennis de young is just killing it! Please listen 💯💯💯💯
ОтветитьWhen I bought my first car (a cool little 75 Corolla GT) I put in an AM/FM/Cassette player. This was the first album I transferred over to a TDK cassette and cruised the highways. I used Dolby noise reduction, so I was uber cool.
ОтветитьYou should also check out "Light Up". Another fun, incredibly positive prog tune.
ОтветитьDennis DeYoung was one of the best singers of his time, and Styx was one of my all-time favorite bands...and Come Sail Away was my favorite song by Styx.
It still gives me a peaceful easy feeling every time I listen to it.
Cool! I think Earth was seeded by multiple advanced civilizations originating from various other star systems. It's the only concept that makes sense.
ОтветитьVery musical song Bethany, you're right. That band had a ton of talent, Dennis and guitarists Tommy Shaw and James Young. And they all composed also. What is odd is that Dennis got crucified back in the day for his effeminate voice, whereas other high singers like Neil Young, Jon Anderson and even Geddy Lee, did not. So in their heyday that made them a band you wouldn't admit to being a fan of.
But Dennis had it technically and a unique tone as well. His bent was ballads and sappy songs, whereas Tommy and James wanted to rock. That eventually drove a wedge in between them about musical direction. I can see them arguing over this song and then the compromise ; ballad into hard rock song.
From their 7th album, released on July 7, 1977
ОтветитьBy far the best vocal analysis and reaction on line… 💥
ОтветитьWe saw Dennis a few years ago & he still sounds great.
Ответить
ОтветитьGrand Illusion was released on 7/7/77. Lucky number 7 for sure but this album was so good no luck was needed.
ОтветитьPlease , any Beth Hart song ... you are welcome
ОтветитьHe has one incredible voice man..
ОтветитьMy sister and I would stand over the turn table and go over the song a thousand times to learn every little note and nuance for all the music 🎶 of the day. Great memories. We still talk about it. I'm 66 and she is 61 . We had a blast!
ОтветитьI'm from this generation and have seen these guys many times. Never a bad show ever!
ОтветитьSnow blind. One of my faves. If you listen to it, see if you can figure out what it's about.
ОтветитьAs a 2000s kid, I can say Styx had the greatest total vocal talent of any band.
Ответить
