MAHABHARATA_Part Four_ARJUNA_Act 1

Chitralekha Odissi Dance Creations presented the Mahabharata in four parts through the lives of the four heroes Bhishma, Drona, Karna, and Arjuna, from 2003 to 2006 at the Leah Posluns Theatre, Toronto, Canada.

Inspired by BR Chopra's television series, CODC's Artistic Director Devraj Patnaik composed the music, choreographed the dance, and played the role of each respective lead, while his sister Ellora Patnaik co-directed alongside and played many characters, including Shri Krishna for all four chapters.

The Oriya Dance Drama was staged with a multiple cast of artists from Canada and India with life size chariots, thrones, decorative crowns and armour, with special effects of video projection, pyrotechnics, and unique stage props.

The music was recorded, mixed, and mastered in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India and arranged with instruments and sounds that had never been used before in an Oriya Dance Drama. Inviting vocalists from the Odissi world as well as from the film industry, Devraj went above and beyond to break barriers for the first time in Oriya history.
