What problems you have with Thor Skywalker?

Lucas is revelant because it's his films and universe

What an asshole. I mean it's technically alright to judge things in different ways depending on how you feel, but calling yourself correct and getting unproportionally angry at something you give another movie a pass for just reeks of pretentiousness.

I agree that Rick has a pretty strong bias, and I think he does know that he is in the minority when it comes to his opinions on the prequels. However, I do agree with Rick that Lucas intentionally made Star Wars to go beyond just surface level entertainment, whereas J.J. wanted to make a movie purely for entertainment and Ryan purposefully created a movie that would cause controversy by subverting expectations. I think movies made for surface level entertainment should be judged on a surface level, and I think movies that are meant to be taken more seriously should be analyzed more seriously.

Loved the points you brought up in this video. Rick’s essay is one of my favorites on the PT, but it does have many undeniable flaws and should not be viewed in isolation. As for the point about prejudice, I don’t feel that that’s much of an issue because the points against Lucas are so popular and well known. I’ve yet to find a video that goes quite so in depth on the merits of the prequels while not also being heavily sided in favor of the films. That being said, the issues of hypocrisy are quite apparent and definitely undermine his argument. I also find his video to be quite repetitive and in need of some major trimming. Cutting out the weakest arguments would both vastly improve the video and most of its problems. My hope is that over time more people are inspired to make similarly insightful essays and encourage a more thorough reading of the PT.

Excellent video. However, I really love Rick Worley and think his video essay on the Prequels was excellent - I'm very excited for Part 2 of that (clearly longitudinal) series. I didn't even know he was on EFAP. Gotta watch that as soon as possible. He has such a soothing voice and has a lot of interesting stuff to say.

However I really appreciate his material, I must say his takes on The Last Jedi are extremely hypocritical in regards to how he views haters of the Prequels (where he ends up becoming the very thing he criticises); he states that Prequel haters went into the cinema expecting something pre-conceptually rather than being open minded and experiencing the director's vision, George Lucas' story with a sense of understanding, yet he failed to do this when watching the Sequels himself and viewing The Last Jedi through the lens of "well it wasn't MY Star Wars, and it betrayed what I consider to be Star Wars, so it's not good!". Instead of trying to see where Rian Johnson came from, he hated on Johnson as he expected something from Star Wars rather than being open minded about it. He didn't even take his own approach - and in that regard he should practice what he preaches. I noticed this contradiction instantly, as well as the one you point out.

I'm glad this critique has been made. Other than that, I think Worley is awesome and I see him as an excellent video creator who harks back to Adam Curtis' style of filmmaking to tell an opinion piece.

Problematic? Lucas made Star Wars.

It's important to understand what the intent of the creator is when viewing its creation because it then gives you a perspective of, "did this actually work in the movie" and with Lucas, it certainly seems to be the case. I mean you may not like the prequels, you may disagree with certain things, but once contrasted with the actual intent of what was going on and having to formulate a point against that, most of the problems people have with the prequels melt away into utter idiocy at worst or completely nitpicking nonsense at best.

Those two things are completely different. Episode 8's main plot revolved around a giant fleet of ships slowly following a handful of ships while waiting for them to run out of gas. That is the main plot around which everything else happens. If there are unanswered, obvious questions about that chase, the entire movie is called into question. This is not the same as wondering about one small (or even insignificant) issue within the larger story. The word "nitpick" has a specific meaning but you seem to think pointing out a giant plot hole somehow qualifies (along with something as insignificant as wondering who collects the taxes in the republic) as worthy of such a label. Imagine I make a movie called "hot potato" that is about a man running around screaming in pain from holding a hot potato while trying to go about his day. If after 2 hours I don't address why he doesn't just drop it and someone calls that into question, is that a nitpick? What if that same person asks if it was an Idaho potato? Do you see the difference?

How did I never think of making Stitch from Stitch and Adam similar Stitch from Lilo and Stitch?

Have you ever seen Battlestar Galactica. That’s how you do a convoy chase… well, there are lots of examples. The entire sequel trilogy simply isn’t thought through and is mostly designed to either repeat or subvert the Original trilogy. It’s made precisely by those who didn’t get the deeper stuff in George Lucas‘ films and who didn’t like the prequels. The result is a set of movies that are precisely the superficial, simple minded, logic ridden action space fantasy movies that Lucas‘ trilogies were always accused of being by their detractors. I think that’s sad. Not a worthy follow up to the classic films.
And I find that more heinous when you know he did have an outline and they decided to not use it at all. In other words they thought they knew Star Wars better than Lucas 😅
The Acolyte on the other hand isn’t ancontinuation of the Georgw Lucas saga, but a spin off, so I am fine with it doing its own thing.
