The Love Hate Relationship With Vtuber Award Shows.

So long as the fans have the power to vote their oshis in, you'll only ever see the top names every time.

Mr under Hill VT made a post on Twitter🐦 a few days ago saying i hate award show's don't put me in one they are messy he was not wrong i don't like how we never get to put new fresh small creators & big unknown creators in the spotlight for once i don't like seeing shyLily i don't want to see iron mouse non of Vshojo girls and guy or Filian or anyone i can name of the top of the bat even gawr gura i want new creators to take the stage or else I'm not watching these it's boring how the system works on these to and that's kind of what I find. So unenjoyable about these, is that every single time I see the same damn person winning these things, and it's just like damn, I'm not interested anymore, because I already know who its gonna be 99% of the time ⌚ And I know some people are gonna get on my ass and try to call me jealous or whatever, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to see fresh faces every once in a while feel me or maybe you don't, it's also toxic competitiveness, and the host steering it on instead of trying to fix it and make sure things don't get out of hand then when they act all shocked and surprised and be like, why did everybody turn toxic during my advent? I don't know it's probably because you were pushing it and you encouraged it, so that's why your event turned into a dumpster fire🔥and was very toxic to begin with it's insufferable, not seeing new faces, it's insufferable not having a positive and non toxic competitive award show it's insufferable who the host is as well

Bolters mention this already in the comments but hate how it's oshis only like damn it's near impossible to win these things when you're a small creator, so when I see small creators getting their hopes up & joining these things I'm just like call it quits and pack it up I'm sorry no event will include you and I see a lot of people call smaller creators entitled for wanting to be included in these things, and it's just like so exhausting, honestly, like, imagine calling somebody and title like they never said nobody else deserve the award, but they just said they wanted to be included in something, so to see people make them out to be toxic, and all of that is also insufferable for wanting inclusion I would also tell bigger creators not to bother as well, because sometimes it's just so annoying how the system only is based off of oshis all the time no hate to the people that were picked and they deserve their flowers, but I still want to see fresh faces, I want to see new people in all of that, so I don't really bother with these things smaller vtuber awards hasn't happened in so long and I just hate how toxic elite this community is even when I decided to join the Vtuber community I said never put me in one of these things, never think about giving me the idea because I'm not gonna do it I'd rather do my own little game play have fun then compete with toxic elite ppl

Sorry for the yapping but somebody got to say the quiet part out loud and it just had to be me and a few other people XD I mean, all of the quiet parts out loud of how smaller creators are just treated like garbage🚮 and their feelings are misconstrued all the time to make them look like a a villain in a situation, and I just hate how smaller creators are also called leeches at times me i don't consider myself that as I've always cheerd on success

It still irks me that there's a category for Best Charity Streamer. Like, surely all charity drives are equal? Are they trying to make it competitive?

That's just kind of how these award shows work it's the top vtubers giving themselves and their friends awards cause they're the top dogs they have the most viewers/fans so naturally they're gonna get the most votes. It's basically just ego stroking.

I don't like awards shows as much that's why i kinda lost interest in them.

Well maybe we wouldn't have been so frustrated with these award shows if the "winners" like, I don't know, ACTUALLY MET THE REQUIREMENTS?! This is why we get fed up. The most egregious example is Gamer of the Year category, where, get this, they had like five nominees and NONE of them were actually known for their skill like it said in the requirements They were all entertainers, not athletes, and the award was made for athletes. Vet the nominees so they all meet the requirements first, THEN we talk.

Eminem of all people put it eloquently. They picked a nobody like Nora Jones for Album of the Year. They're not even in the conversation when it came down to the candidates. That's how tone-deaf the curators are.

These award shows are all basically ego stroking. Wake me up when someone interesting actually wins lol

Yeah I'm staying away from the awards. Not that I have complete hate towards the vtuber community as I'm about to become one myself, but I know there are going to be certain contenders that'll win in a land slide because of certain fans. And the creators that don't win, those fans will become angry and throw a riot. It's not just the vtuber awards, it's just award shows in general that are ridiculous and have unfair odds. I have no idea if I'll ever be crazy enough to participate in the future, but for right now, I say no thank you.

Complaining that Awards shows put the spotlight on Major Players in the Space is like complaining that Water is wet. I understand and respect the sentiment, but it is an unfortunate reality of our societies that with popularity comes the resources needed to become more popular.

Especially with a non-academic Awards show organized entirely by Insiders like the Vtuber Awards, you cannot expect impartiality. Rather, i like to view these events as entertainment and promotional shows.

Could smaller creators use the extra publicty? Sure. But there's no need to pick a generally positive event such as this apart to it's bones because of jealousy or personal biases. The idea that entertainment (and especially V-Tubing) is a Zero-Sum game, where every bit of content produced is implicitly damaging to someone else ("Opportunity Cost"), is a toxic and irrational sentiment that has sadly taken hold of many.

I feel the worst part of the awards is that it is incredibly blind to the JP talents.
