I knew it was Japanese but i thought it was different:
E as in electronic (like in email)
Moji for character
So electronic character
Overall, I'll take Bento. Thanks.

ОтветитьNo it’s not emoji is short for emoticon
ОтветитьWhen I originally saw the word I recognised it must be Japanese but I thought it must be "emo-tion" + ji - so a sign showing emotion - since it was originally used for smilieys showing emotions. I was surprised once I learnt that it was actually picture-moji.
ОтветитьI guess kids nowadays don't even know this universal fact about emoji. It was pretty common info back in the day.
Ответить鹿せんべい

Ответить📺🧸💬 ... Emoji in Japanese...
🥺💬 I wish to have a riceball for a Bento later.
Not obvious ones are 🙆♂️ as correct⭕️まる, opposite of 🙅♂️=❌️(罰点-ばつ), and the most surprising one for me is newbie 🔰(初心者 -しょしんしゃ)
ОтветитьAnd this 💒🏩 lovuu hotelluuu
Ответить(●^o^●)
ОтветитьI thought it was write in katakana
ОтветитьI assumed emo was like a shortened loan word related to emotion somehow, with ji as character, as it is in kanji, romaji, etc. Like “emotion character”
But in retrospect, picture character makes way more sense considering they do not all express emotion.
I love your teachings!
ОтветитьCan someone explain to me what this emoji means? 🔰
Ответитьthis also means emoji is etymologically unrelated to emoticon :)
Ответитьa certain samurai taught me this😂
ОтветитьEverytime I hear dango I remember that song 😢
Ответить❤
ОтветитьWhen I hear せんべい, I have to think of Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan because of Noko saying 鹿せんべい in the opening and it getting repeated in the whole anime!
ОтветитьArigato 🎉

ОтветитьYes Japan is very popular among silly kids who use these stupid pictures. So while Japan gave us silly pictures, other nations gave us numerals, algebra and even the Latin letters you use in chemistry in Japan.
