Dimi, you tell a great story, fantaastic production quality, and created a new fan. Marrisa has incredible insight, and a phenomenal voice.. I look forward to your future works. Thank you for your effort and sharing. Peace.
ОтветитьExcellent video!
ОтветитьOff topic but I find both Phil and Peter to be so much better looking as older bald men! 😊
ОтветитьThat drum fill is the one reason I listen to that particular track. Its perfect and pure genius!
ОтветитьDamn good production! Taiko drums fully do the trick
ОтветитьWOW such an amazing video. The amount of work you have put into this, is simply nothing but amazing!!! I truly truly enjoyed watching this. Love from Spain
Ответить3 years before I was the voice and he was the drummer, a band mate and I worked in a Burger King together, closing shift. Every time that song hit the radio, we pounded the stainless steel work tables for the drum riff. Nothing like in the world.
ОтветитьWhat always gets overlooked these days is that Steve Lillywhite had produced The Scream by Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1978 and it was their drummer, Kenny Morris, who started that whole no-cymbals thing. Siouxsie hated cymbals and had physically removed as many of Kenny's as she could until there was only the bare minimum left. That led him to develop a tribal playing style 'somewhere between the Glitter Band and Maureen Tucker'. Kenny wasn't technically great, so Lillywhite decided to record the different parts of the kit separately. He then took what he'd learned from working with the Banshees and expanded it when working with Peter Gabriel. Interestingly, he also asked the Banshees' John McKay to play guitar on Gabriel's 3rd album, but John refused. Punk snobbery abut 'prog', I guess. He was sorry later.
ОтветитьIt's "Chiz-ik" the "W" is silent.
ОтветитьIf you like A Trick of the Tail, listen to Trespass.
ОтветитьSo the gated reverb was the result of the talk back Mike facing the drums with no cymbals creating the iconic drum fill which was the mistake
ОтветитьIn between the obvious drums there is a drum kick. Often forgotten. It’s not all about the toms.
ОтветитьPHIL yes yes! Thanks dude!😊
ОтветитьPhil is a multitalented legend. Young people can be accidentally hilarious. Gated reverb is the bomb. Spotify sux. That is all. 👍😎
ОтветитьMy drum teacher taught Phil Collins
ОтветитьMost of rock n roll was a mistake, full of studio mishaps!
ОтветитьAwesome. Great remake. Nice work with the Taiko drums!🎉
I enjoyed the breakdown and education.
As a lifelong Genesis fan (and fellow drummer) I must say how much i enjoyed this video.
ОтветитьMy number 1 drummer
ОтветитьDrum flams are not accidents or mistakes...and that doesn't makes you a genious.....
ОтветитьChesters Gorrilla!
Ответить....then he recorded 'groovy kind of love'. The end.
Ответитьyour crippled.
Ответитьcrap
ОтветитьNice story but the overlap is the drum sound of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida... but you may be too young for that...
ОтветитьWhen he was the group genesis I thought they had a unique sound!
ОтветитьThis drum-fill was never a thing until recently... I saw a phil concert a few years or so ago and I thought it was very weird that everyone cheered for this drum-fill. Very odd. Everyone I know knows this song from when we were kids but this drum bit has never been mentioned, not even once. It's one of the most normal sounding drum-fills and nothing worth mentioning.
ОтветитьCan-Utility and the Coastliners has Phil showcasing an amazing syncopated off-time beat that taught me volumes about uneven time signatures. One of the best examples of his talents that were way ahead of the times (no pun intended). I mean even Bruford, White, Cobham, DeJohnette, Palmer would have been challenged by some of the odd signatures Collins came up with on Foxtrot.
ОтветитьWhy is the Peter Gabriel album pixelated out?
ОтветитьI used to think it was in the air of the night.
In the air tonight is an awesome song. I think i first heard the song in Risky Business movie.
That is a song that does not suit anybody else. sorry, was good but not Philling.
ОтветитьIm not a musician so this went over my head.
What was the mistake?
Of all the rhythms Genesis ever created the most famous surely has to be this one:
ddD D- D- D- D- D- dD- ddD- ddD- / ddD D- D- D- D- D- dD- ddD- ddD- /
(clue: it's in 6/4)
This is the most instantly recognisable rhythm by anyone from Genesis until THAT drum fill by Phil for In The Air Tonight.
An engineering error. Has been happening for thousands of years.
ОтветитьGreat insight and production, and wow, NoRadio... Who knew... More material. You guys have musical chemistry... music that tingles your soul.
Ответитьthanks for posting,, I saw Genesis on the Momma tour and Phil w/ Rob't Plant .........👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
ОтветитьIs Nicko going to join Genesis??
ОтветитьI was growing up in late 60s, 70s and only rock in 80s. I did love Phil Collins and yes we all knew that drum fill for In The Air Tonight. We didn’t feel that he changed the 80s. The 80s was a merge of other genres trying to take over the rock years.
In the 70s we had Synthesizers in our high school band. Phil is fan of jazz and loved Bonham’s drum/percussion which is why most Zeppelin’s fans also loves Phil Collins. The early years 73 for Zeppelin I first saw them live, and 74 first time I saw Phil. He is amazing! I was so Lucky catching all of the best years of Rock! Chester was also an amazing drummer who fit right in!
you talk too much.... long video...
ОтветитьHave you heard Phil Collins playing with the group Brand X?
Ответить80% of this video is just Phillers
ОтветитьNow you can go listen to Mike and the Mechanics...
Ответитьclick bite, super long video!!!!!
ОтветитьBrilliant. As a long-time Genesis fan who morphed into a Phil Collins fan, thank you. Your discussion of early Genesis and Phil's history with the accident that became 'In The Air Tonight' reveals the genius that I feel Mr. Collin truly is. Phil's unique approach and drum sound, coupled with a one-of-a-kind voice, are so well presented we really get a warm view of the man without it being too 'fan-boyish'. It is factually interesting, well-paced, and entertaining. What more can we ask? I now need to see more of your work. Oh, and the cover is pretty fire, too.
