He's so lucky.... to have encountered a cougar. Makes me want to wander the wilderness in North America in hopes it will happen with me. I now know what to say to avoid an attack so I can admire one... "I'm going away... I'm going away. I'm not going to bug you!"

This is 100% a female cougar with cubs nearby and warding off a threat. I think there is very little intention from a female cougar protecting cubs attacking someone who is backing off. A mom cougar cannot afford conflict, get injured, and no longer care for its vulnerable cubs. The intention is deterrence and with these hikers continually backing away (which is the right thing) the mom keeps her sense of empowerment over them. As soon as you stood your ground and even advanced, the cougar mom would back down and run. Happened in the other Utah encounter... a thrown rock ended it in skittish retreat. An actual predatory hunt from a cougar would be NOTHING like what we saw here. This is how mom cougars protect their young with bluffs, spits, swipes, lures away, and such. Cheetahs do the same thing. A rabid cougar might behave like this but would attack and bite.

I'm not gonna bug you, I'm going away🤣🤣🤣🤣. I dont know why that made me laugh🤣🤣🤣. I don't get hiking at all. I barely like walking around the block. The only reason I grudgingly walk now is to get my exercise. No, I have no desire to walk anywhere where a wild animal can, stalk, chase and kill me.. I just dont get the appeal. Ditto for camping, mountain climbing, cave diving and all that nonsense some people do.

I live in northern Nevada and I purchased a tag to hunt a mountain lion this year. If I am successful, will make mountain lion jerky.

Why go that deep into that area without a gun or Machete 🤠🤠

This guy survived simply by luck. He didn't give the Mountain Lion an opening and he got her just far enough away from her cubs that she gave up.

Luck is always the biggest determining factor in any situation, but having a weapon raises a person's "Luck" skill by +10.
