I used to live in Houston. This is the suburbs which are like an hour drive away from downtown or city center, living in these houses you are literally far away from everything, you have to drive everywhere and waste miles on your car to go anywhere, even to your closest convenience store. Also, Houston doesn't have any zoning laws so you can live in one of these houses in a nice block but just a couple blocks away you can be in the hood or ghetto. You can go visit yourself if you don't want to believe me.

Then the flooding

As someone who fell for the hype and moved to Texas, do not move there it’s so depressing. Yeah these houses are nice but guess what every damn house in that state looks the same even in Dallas they all look like that. And that’s not even why it’s depressing, the place is poorer than most, higher crime rate and homicide rate. Arlington has about 3000 registered offenders, forty worth had about 2,900 and Dallas has 3900 about. It’s a right to fire state, so you can be fired at any time for any reason, anti union so unions aren’t a big thing over there, extremely hot temperatures weeks where everyday will be 100 plus degrees even some being 110 degrees.
Also taxes are rising…
What ppl don’t realize is that supply and demand depict the price of anything and with tons of ppl moving there the demand is increasing, supply is decreasing therefore it’s becoming more expensive.
Also the whole state is just highways, it’s incredibly ugly. And the idea of Texas being country is nonsense, that place is so industrialized covered in highways, fast food, and car dealerships it doesn’t even look country. And I guarantee you those houses have an extremely tiny backyard as well, bc I lived in a house that looks like that. Texas was so depressing in forever thankful that I was able to move to the north east.

I’m from the UK planning on moving with my family to the US, and was told Huston was a great place. We currently live in the suburbs of a city now and would like to do the same again.
