Nowadays games like Lorcana and One piece have alt arts as the hyper rares instead that way it keeps needed play cards within circulation at fair prices while allowing for collectors to do their collecting

There was that time at Gen Con 2023 when a couple guys heisted a pallet of Magic cards from the loading dock of the convention center. They even took the pallet jack. Of course they were seen on camera and then on the camera outside their nearby hotel. I know they were arrested but never found out their final fate.

Welcome to the MTG YT community, HAI! Over there on the left, you'll see Spice8Rack, he's a bit of a rambly goblin. Over here on the right, you'll see The Professor. He likes to try to break accessories, and rates them highly if he fails. Over in the breakroom you can see the lads from Game Knights. They're always deck-building, and like to hog the printer for custom tokens. Up in the basement you'll find 8thPlaceDave and his wife, we think they make tiktoks? Down in the attic, we have Rhystic Study. They like to thematically analyze the lore like weirdos, although they sometimes recap it in a digestable format which is nice. And lastly, we have the LoadingReadyRun crew currently using the conference room. They seem to be playing something called Beejlander? Ope, nevermind - that's a pack wars tournament, but Beej was there so it was confusing.

Any questions?

I wonder how it would impact things if they just like, printed a BUTTLOAD of copies of a powerful card vs. just banning it. The original printing may get more value in resale because there are fewer of it, but it wouldn't be worth spending thousands or 10s of thousands if the reprints are super common and do the same in the game, right?

This video is uh… not good that’s a ton of misinformation. I almost feel like an AI scripted this because there is a lot of incorrect remarks made. Plus a lot of confusing statements. It feels like they just mentioned random things quickly to meet the required time of the video and didn’t dive deep into anything.

I would heavily encourage players invested in the market aspect to find people IN the magic community covering this topic or someone who actually knows a thing or two being a long term player. A video that is about 8 minutes long will not teach you jack about a terribly complex 30 year long topic.

If you came to me and started talking about MTG and then used half of the things this video said about the game and market, then I would 100% laugh at you, then actually inform you and encourage you to play MTG so you can laugh at this video too.

I’m not writing out a long statement here about every wrong thing said because I know for a fact nobody will actually read this comment.
If enough people do maybe I will.

This video is unfortunately riddled with incorrect or poorly researched statements. You can see in the comments, but it makes me sad to see something talk about an actual problem in the game but be researched so shoddily or just put together badly. They even mentioned but glazed over the reserved list, an enormous part of mtg finance, extremely contentious, and hugely impactful part of mtg. As well as incorrectly stating that Wizards manages the secondary economy. They cant even acknowledge its existence as is well known; because if they do they run afowl of gambling -- not to mention child gambling -- regulation.

Absolutely ridiculous video that gets almost everything wrong. By definition, every collectible market is the equivalent of a stock exchange because they're based on speculation so to say Mtg has created a stock market system is redundant at best. It's literally in the name for these types of games - CCGs. Wizards isn't the SEC, they're closer to the equivalent of a ponzi scheme where they need more new players and buyers to prop up the existing economy and the easiest way to do so is to print more and more powerful cards. Yes, Black Lotus and the Power 9 are still over powered, but literally 99% of the vintage cards are outclassed by pretty much any modern card these days. The result is that if you want to be competitive, you'll need to buy into the newest sets. Wizards' creation of newer tournament formats wasn't to protect players but sell new cards as they make no money off the secondary market so they have to force players to buy into the new sets. Jeweled Lotus was printed against the recommendations of the independent rules committee because it was too over powered. When they banned it, the independent rules committee caught the brunt of the consumer wrath and gave up regulating Commander rules to Wizards so Hasbro now in charge of the most lucrative mtg format.

This video unfairly makes Wizards of the Coast seem like the good guys. They're not. They take forever to ban cards that 99% of people recognize as broken. They also charge so much for cards that cost them nothing. Don't forget that they release more and more sets with pop culture crossovers that do nothing for the game, but are pure fan service.

as a long time Magic player, this video simplified the subject to the point of being what I'd consider functionally incorrect. there are many large online figures who have first had experience with this market who I'm sure would have offered their insights to contribute to this video, and it would have been much better for it
