Yep, I remember everybody was talking about the vaunted triple option GT offense and how hey were going to run up the score. I knew if our D played great we'd at the very least make it close. The first half stats for GT's offense was laughable, our D absolutely crushed them, if it wasn't for the pick 6 the game wouldn't have been as close as it seemed.

iowa needs a qb that isnt afraid to make mistakes. once we get that we will start winning again.

I tell ya, I watched every game Iowa played that year and in the Orange Bowl they looked like a legitimate NFL defense. That's how good they looked and were prepared for that game. Excellent job by the players and coaching staff.

Oh what could have been. Iowa had the goods to win it all in 09, but still was a nice season regardless.

I miss these days, back when Iowa was a national threat.  5 years later and there is still no one like Ricky Stanzi or Tony Moaki.

PS:  The "Love or leave it" statement has gone down in Iowa football history lore, haha.

Hit the Yellow Jackets and their vaunted "triple-option" offense right in the mouth! The late Norm Parker had executed the perfect game plan to stop Dweyer and Nesbitt and Adrian Clayborn was a one-man wrecking crew! Was stacked offensively as we could be. Wish Wegher & Robinson would have played out their careers at Iowa! They both were good players!

Yeah, a throwback offense doesn't go well against a defensive coordinator that was coaching back when the triple option was big.

I think the 2009 Hawkeyes were actually a better team then the 2015 Hawkeyes. In 2015 we just got really fortunate with our schedule really. Got embarrassed in the Rose Bowl

I was at this game. Not a fan of either team but love CFB. Was happy with the result. Met some nice Iowans before the game while tailgating and the Hawkeyes deserved to win.

This was a phenomenal Iowa team that is probably the best clutch team I'd ever seen. This is a team that managed to go from getting blown out by Indiana to blowing out Indiana in just one quarter. This team also toppled a phenomenal Penn State team and took Ohio State to overtime with their backup QB. Close wins over Northern Iowa and Arkansas State had pollsters not respecting the Hawkeyes but ultimately that didn't matter as this team showed how good they are and almost were playing for the national title. I noticed a lot of similarities to the 1986 Penn State team that was given close games by a couple bad teams but ultimately beat Miami in the Fiesta Bowl for the national title.

But GT, USC, Michigan, tOSU, PSU,.......has superior talent though.

Oh how much we lost. DJK, Coker, Robinson, and Wegher. Every one of them were superstars in the making.

Georgia Tech has had some superstar receivers play for them. DeMaryius Thomas and Calvin Johnson (Megatron)? Impressive for a team that played triple option most of the time!

I straight up don’t understand how every teach copies this. You stop a triple option team by, dare I say it committing 8 men to the run

Adam Robinson was such a great back and Ricki Stanzi was probably the best QB of in the last 20 years

I truly believe that this team was going to the national championship if Stanzi didn't get injured

Norm Parker was a defensive guru, i heard that they was interviewing him about how they was gonna stop the triple option and he said "triple option? We called that the wish bone offense in Texas"
