I’m not going to comment like I knew Barbara Davenport or Nancy well. They were acquaintances. We went to the same high school together. Nancy was in my German class. At the time they were attacked it was not too long after the beginning of the school year. It was weird one day Nancy was in class and then all of a sudden she wasn’t. Barbara was so brave. She came back to school pretty soon after the attack. The injury on her neck was visible. I remember not seeing her for awhile and found out she transferred to another high school where she could be more anonymous. Someone told me, and I pray this isn’t true, that when she passed certain people in the halls of our high school they would make a neck slashing hand motion at her. I cannot imagine the degree of evil in someone’s heart to do that. I saw Barbara at one of our reunions and she was doing great. She had a great job with The Sheriffs Department and she seemed like she had a great time. Sadly, Barbara passed away from cancer a few years ago. She was an incredible person.

Unfortunately Barbara passed away in 2016. She was just 54.

Jennifer was an amazingly brave little girl at 8 years old and is still an amazingly brave young lady. To overcome all that she went through and be determined to face her attacker in court only to find out he took the coward's way out...but that didn't stop her from saying what she wanted and needed to. Jennifer, you deserve to wear the "badass" badge and to wear it proudly!!

Ive heard stories where people knock desperately on doors for help like that and they get it slammed in their face! What's almost as amazing as these survival stories are the people telling them. What these people went through is beyond comprehension and I don't know that I could've ever talked about the horror of those experiences. 😢

The amazing things about these survivors is....its almost never the big tough looking people. Its average looking people with amazing inner strength and determination. .
