If he truly was the messiah then the ummah would be certain of it, because Allah would've given us the signs. For example; the earthquake in Mekkah that swallows up the enemies of Al Mahdi. Only Allah knows best, but I don't believe this man was a messiah at all. I hope for him that he's had a good ending if it is true that he prayed fajr on the day of his passing
