Very interesting. I encounter the second diagram regularly as White, and as soon as I see my opponent play g17, I consider this sente, me not liking the variations you showed for White. I then often play f18 to kill the aji, and have some prospects at the upper side as well. What do you think, is this a wise attitude for White, or is it too defensive? If the latter, my biggest concern is to keep the corner, I even tried d18 as an answer to the peep at e18. That doesn’t feel OK, but I lost my corner stones too often.
