Yes, the root digit for both the answers is 7. By mistake, Sir calculated 5x5=27=9. So, i think in this case might have to use the traditional method.

I have learnt from somewhere that the easiest method to find the root number is by striking out all nines (9s). So, if a number is 3425481637, the root digit is 7. 3+4+2=9, 5

Oops, it cut me off! So, continuing to find root number, continue striking off 5+4=9, 1+8=9, what remains is 7, which is root digit.

So, say, if you want to find the root digit of 632 x 632, then strike off all digits which adds upto 9 (6 and 3 in both numbers), what remains are 2s, so 2 x 2 is 4, which is root digit. This is faster than adding 6+3+2 two times, then 11 x 11, then 2 x 2 = 4.
