So excited to get my FFF box for fall! I got the copper tins and added that tote! I love that it zippers at the top. The side zippers are decorative, FYI. 😉 I got the blue light glasses too.

For the mom who asked about the child who doesn't want to slow down to sound out words:. Read more aloud to that child as they sit next to you and follow along, then give them easier books to read independently. If the child wants to get on with the story that's a good thing! So make it easier for him to do so 🙂

For the question about the child not wanting to slow down and sound out the words...would it work if maybe they chose a book that was slightly lower in level so he doesn’t have to sound out as many words, until he gains confidence in his reading?

"Well a 3 year old is a toddler..." sorry, that made me laugh out loud 🤣🙌 I think we could be friends 🤗 I'm the same way about housework. I treat our school like my job. I would never be at work and be on my social media or on the phone with a friend chit chatting. I will do chores before and after. I notice a huge difference in my kids attitude towards school, when they see me taking our school seriously.

I am currently using the good and the beautiful level k for language arts and math with my 5 year olds. One of them does not really like to read because I think she is just not quite ready (gives up quickly when it gets too hard, gets frustrated when she doesn’t understand) so I want to slow down a bit with her, but still continue to teach her. Since you’ve used the curriculum and know how it progresses, would you recommend continuing with her and maybe just repeating level k next year if needed or stopping altogether until later in the year when she is more mature developmentally. It’s tough because she knows her letter sounds and most 2 letter blends as we’ve been using the level k primer so I would hate to stop altogether, but don’t want her to end up hating reading. Thanks in advance!

First off I have to say I love so much that you aren’t afraid to post long videos. I feel like a lot of people I follow cut them off at 10-15 minutes.
I could listen to your advice all day! Haha. You’re a huge inspiration to me (not just as a homeschooler but as a woman and Christian) so thank you! You’re such a light and I appreciate your videos so much.

This was great! Thank you for taking the time to answer questions. I have a second grader this year and I just wanted to agree with your thoughts about kids ages 4 and under - let them learn while playing. Enjoy that time! It goes SO fast and there is plenty of time for official schoolwork later!

Hey Ashlee! Such a great Q&A! I still consider myself a newbie to homeschooling because I took my daughter out of school mid-year last school year...a few months before "you know what" happened (Lol) My question is, where and how do I find a good homeschool group in my area? I homeschool an only child and would love for her to have a group for field trips, some group learning time, holiday parties, etc.

Something fun I did when teaching my young child to read was to tickle them if they said the word wrong. My daughter is a perfectionist and would get very upset when she made a mistake or couldn't read the word. This would help keep it light and silly.
She was only four so this worked well. She was very young but she was already teaching herself to read, so I went for it.
I've heard of some momma's finding a "funny noise" app that they'll tap if their kid makes a mistake. Get to know your kid and really ease into subjects. It doesn't have to be serious all the time.

Good job with the answers. Seasoned homeschool mom here and your answers were great! I know these moms are new but I couldn’t help but notice that how the culture has influenced them already with starting kids so young, like 3-4yo with school work and sit down time. It’s okay to let them just play and learn while playing. Your answers to those were good too!

My kids were interested in learning even before age 3. They wanted me to teach them about letters and numbers, etc. They just had so many questions (and still do!). They saw me reading and writing things all day so that's what they wanted to do. I just let them lead the lessons and stopped when they had enough. Both of mine could read leveled readers at age 4, but not because I'm an "overachiever". They wanted to read. We went at their pace and stopped for a wiggle break about every 15 minutes or whenevertheir interest dropped off.
It's a bit misguided to assume schooling young children is not acceptable. Why wouldn't I teach them when their curiosity is leading the lesson?

I know not everyone has this experience with their 3 year olds but I just wanted to chime in that not all of us with young readers/schoolers are just nutty overachievers. Some of us have young children that want to learn at age 3 because they see us schooling their siblings and they see that we value education. We school as a family and they want to be included.

I feel like I’m at constant war with the kids to get off of them!! And quarantine has only amplified these problems!! Help a mama out...I’m trying to curb this before we start homeschooling. Also any times where you guys DO allow screen time (in conservation of course).

First year homeschooling younger children. We now have a 2, 5, 6 & 7 year olds in school. Well not the two year old except what he chooses to read along with during the day. The older two are both in 2nd grade but the 7 yr old is struggling with reading. I believe mostly with not showing down to sound out. But also a general lack of interest in books. She's never been much to listen to me read to her and no desire to learn herself. Any suggestions welcomed.

New to your channel! Thank you for sharing your advice. You have a bright beautiful family! I'm doing a couple of hours in the morning with my 5 year old doing letters, numbers, reading/writing, plus fun activities (while also juggling a 2 year old and infant 🤪). Have you ever used the book "Teach your child to read in 100 lessons"? I'm on lesson 13 so far. Some days are great and some he's crying. Any tips? We take breaks and I continue to speak encouraging words through it. I want him to love going to school with momma, but days can be ROUGH and I feel like a failure at times. You're an inspiration momma!
