I've often wondered if he really suffered a brain injury against Julian Jackson that Benn's headbutt just aggravated.
I wish he had fought Bernard Hopkins, that would've been one of the grea middleweight bouts of the 90s.

I noticed most power puncher don't have big bicep, they are mostly tall skinny lanky.. but their torque is out of the chart

Growing up the first "bogeyman" tag I remembered(from behind the couch! Lol) was Thomas "the hitman" Hearns though I must admit G-man was absolutely terrifying! I remember one commentator remark "he fights like he's on a meter" , truer words I have never heard. I can't say I know anything about the dog fighting(outside of what most others heard?),that's the only negative point I heard but it doesn't change the fact that Gerald was frightening! Hope he and his family have happiness and piece of mind. I'm not a boxer but appreciate that every time they go in they are putting their lives on the line. Real modern day gladiators!

It still brings a smile to my face when he is told "you're number two on pound for pound rankings" he then asks "who's number 1?". He's told Mike Tyson and Gerald just said "oh-ok" Respect!

There was a story Manny Steward was talking about when McClellan was only 17 and he was sparring Thomas Hearns, who was in his prime years as a pro. Hearns hit McClellan with his hardest shot (who was charging right at him after taking off his headgear in frustration) , according to Steward, and McClellan just took it like any other punch. He would go on to become a feared champion in his own years as a pro.

That liver shot at the 0.55 mark, I can't even imagine how much pain that guy was in. Ive been hit with a liver shot in sparring and that was with 16oz gloves by an amateur. Getting the punch by a prime McLellan.......fuck.....I'd rather take one to the face any day.....

@IMold363 - 11.06.2023 16:20

For reference, even though Julian Jackson had a KO percentage that was around 5% less than McClellan, because Jackson had over double the fights there is statistically no significant difference between the two boxers’ KO percentages. This means that even though Jackson had twice the experience, McClellan was as great of a Knockout artist as he was!! Unreal

That ref in the Nigel Benn fight should have been stripped that fight because he is 85% of the reason Gman is gone he wasn't calling nor stopping anything in that illegal fight. I say illegal cuz all the headbutts he shouldve been disqualified. Ref didn't stop shii when he should have . When Benn was between the ropes much as I love Gman he shouldn't have been allowed to continue hitting Benn while he was down like that..

I was at the Nigel Benn fight , i have never been in a more crazy violent atmosphere in my life , cant believe what i watched , and today i think i wish the ref would have had the bottle to` No Contest the fight ` having wanted Nigel to win i feel like i hold guilt , thats not what you want after a sporting contest .

Tbh a guy like cus d’amato would have changed his career to better.. most of these talented guys aren’t lucky to have a guy around who keeps them in line. Mike Tyson probably would be the most successful and best fighter without or at least not more than 1-2 losses. Everybody needs somebody around who keeps you sane.

He was a great fighter. Maybe as good of a chin as anyone in the history of that weight division. Maybe too good for his own good. As much as I feel bad for what has happened to him, it is hard for me to look past the cruelty he showed to his animals. VERY hard...

The legends G-man McClellan & Hitman Hearns are so similar in style & the way they swing murder with every punch thrown. I've got a soft spot for McClellan though with those BRUTAL body shots! I'll comment the same of G-man as I have of the Hitman. The Creator gifted these men with sledge hammers below the shoulders.

How the ref didnt count to ten when nigel got knocked through the ropes still pisses me off. Then when nigel came back in the ring the ref turned around twice with 30 seconds left in the round to tell gerald to step back when Gerald was in his corner giving nigel a chance to cover. Then the ref didnt call a dozen or so punches to the back of geralds head. Im still furious about that shit. Gman was one of the greats that had his career cut short because a ref favored his countrymen.

Ответить
@artem4ist466
@artem4ist466 - 02.11.2024 22:53

The referee was counting too slowly when he got to eight, in reality 12 seconds had passed. If a boxer after a knockdown is outside the ropes and outside the surface of the ring, the referee should count to 20. But if a boxer is outside the ropes, but at the same time he does not leave the surface of the ring, then the count in this case is the standard 10. Ben was back inside the ropes almost 13 seconds later. If everything had been according to the rules, Gerald McLellan would have won by knockout in the first round.
