Congratulations on your win, you will find a great You Tube Video undertaken by Phil Dollin @ Inspiration Marine in conjunction with Yachting Monthly crossing the English Channel in challenging weather.
Another great video and well deserved victory

So the plan’s to head up to Bermuda via the Bahama’s and then over to the Azores?

Smashing win. You’re the only sailing channel I Irregularly watch. The rest of are just clickbait posers.

It is great to see you win a young cruisers award, HAHAHA sorry could not help myself. It was a great video and really glad it helped the boaters. Just a shame it was about people losing there homes and all they own.

Always much sought after videos. Yes, from the beginning too. But the fact that you were on hand to shoot your special doci on the hurricane devastation was truly a life saver for so many. The old news team back in action, and a thoroughly pro offering. No wonder the judges chose you guys to win. Well deserved. Congratulations. Stay safe. ❤❤

Congrats on the deserved win for your documentary. Great decision to incorporate personal stories and others footage (even better decision to get Fair Isle the heck outta there !). Liked the selection of material from the 'feel good' boat show; new products, new boats, community updates and caribbean music. Feels like your 'seasons' are punctuated by the show. Looking forward to hearing which route you plan on taking to get to the Bahamas.

I have an Ewincher 2. I really like it. It even has a Bluetooth app that let's you put your name into the device and check the battery level. I plan on buying a 2nd one.

The biggest issue I've had with it is its stopped working when someone else uses it. Specifically they were using it to winch me up the mast. It's never stopped on my, but I tend to taoke breaks and not just run it on high "forever". My best guess is that it overheated for them. It has an overheat feature and maybe they ran it on high too long while hoisting me up the mast?

Anyway, I have winches on the base of both my main and mizzen masts, so self powered winches would just be too much money. One or two Ewinches are a good solution. Hopefully it'll last.

Congratulations on winning! You put a lot of work into your craft.

Jason

Congratulations on your award much deserved. The Moody DS (Deck Saloon) has been around for a long time though the model you liked may be new. It would be interesting how many they have sold across all sizes to get an idea how popular they are? I think they are a great solution.

Moody design....that 3rd cabin shows it is a terrible design. Space will always be used, but sad they couldn't do better. That tall hull in a storm or docking in a wind..

Huuuge congrats on your award. So happy for you.

As to your questions:
Re E-Wincher, big YES from us. We have one on a 47’ masthead mono and it’s a complete gamechanger. It gets the main up for us and the big headsail in after a tack and just makes trimming so much easier. It’s really reliable, only needs charging after a full day’s sailing and only seems to take 20 minutes or so to charge. And the app allows you to change the torque settings and check battery levels and much more. There are cheaper options but their sole advantage is price. Everyone who has used ours have gone out and bought one for their own boat.

Loved the mattress and the pressure wash. But need some convincing about the Moody. In particular, what happens to the water that enters the cockpit? It seems to go straight downstairs, which would seem to break rule #1, being the water is supposed to be on the outside of the boat! Likewise the huge glass windows of the deck saloon, and did I see windows in the hull as well? Also wasn’t convinced about the practicality of sleeping in the bow on passage, so assume this isn’t a boat for night/oceanpassages??

I'm glad the crowd was as appreciative of Fair Isle as I am. Love your approach, your documentary background, which took the Carriacou video to a new level. Great storytelling and all. Hope the trip back to Aruba was quick and painless. Oh, the video could have gone another half hour and I'd have been quite content to watch.

Congratulations on the award. As far as the wash down fitting goes. I've had one of those on my boat now for a few years and one thing I can say though is make sure you have extras of the blue piece that plugs into it. The notches where it twist locks into place wear. Mine hasn't seen much use because I'm not cruising full-time yet but it's already showing some wear so I picked up a couple of extras to keep on board

Great points being made in the galley of the Moody. I want to be where my boat is. More glass means more scenery.
If your mattress problem is as you show in the video. Here's what I did. There is a loose cover over my entire mattress so it's almost impossible to grip it. I bought some of those really big diaper pins (like 6" 15cm) I had to sharpen the points. I stuck these into the bottom of the mattress with some 1" (25mm) thick webbing attached. You have to get the pointy pin through the webbing in two places. So two pins makes a length to grab on to. It's best to angle the pins towards the loop of the webbing. Now I can easily reach under, grab and lift the mattress, or tie some paracord to it and hoist/hold it up tying it to the hand rails on the ceiling in my cabin.

It's all very well to "assume" that a single rudder would have sufficient authority just because the designers thought so.
Most successful designers have never crossed an ocean, let alone in their latest design. They don't have time.
Also : As a result, they do not necessarily envisage, nor do they have to deal with, the scenario of a steep "wave from nowhere" climaxing to give an uppercut under one of those aircraft carrier aft corners.
My sense is that such a wave under such a buoyant overhang would apply enough upwards leverage against the shallow keel draft to heel the boat so far onto the opposite "aircraft carrier aft corner" as bring the single rudder almost completely out of the water, resulting in one of those broaches where the seascape spins so fast your vision blurs.
I may be wrong, but I would certainly want to find out before signing on to such a radical hull form as the Moody 48DS.

I suspect that in practice, boats like this almost never leave the marina, let alone go off soundings, so perhaps it's not an issue....
But I hope it does not catch on and that people do not find out the hard way whether my reservations are valid.

Compliments for the award, a fitting recognition for all your good work! Concerning the ewincher, I bought one last June, and tested it during our 3 weeks summer cruise from Genoa ti Sardinia and back. I'm very satisfied about it. It is very user friendly, re-charging times are short, the ergonomic is ok. For an aged (I'm getting 60 this year) short handed crew on a 38 footer it is a real incentive to use more frequently the sails even on shorter trips. Hoisting the main, furling the 130% genoa, everything gets easier. And even if expensive, I deem that it is a suitable compromise between a full manual and a fully electric winch setup. Ciao from Genoa, Dirk Modica

Does that monohull with the tall freeboard make it look like it would be "Top Heavy" during a heavy wind?
Also, my personal opinion of that boat was two-fold. It kitchen area, master bedroom, and head were nice but there were too many head-crushing obstacles to be struck. And even more so while sailing on anything but glass.

I always like you guy’s opinions on the new gadgets at the show and they were great this time, especially the Boat Kit , the electric wench & the Deck Wash. That was a wonderful idea you had for both Fresh & Sea water! I bet he’s going to have it next year, in print! I was even more glad to see you win with your hurricane coverage, it was definitely the best & personally I think it makes people take the “Young Cruiser’s” much more seriously. I know it’s made me think more of them because they picked not only the Best, but the most “social or publicly” important subject . Congratulations!!
