Gangsters 2: Vendetta deserved to be in the honorable mention. I always thought that GTA San Andreas was something more for gangs and drug dealing than Traditional Mafia.

I literally looked All over for a store that had the god father for Xbox and I finally found it at a retro games store and paid 30 dollars for it and to my absolute horror and disappointment Xbox series x doesn't support the god father games with backwards compatibility. Wtf Microsoft let us play these games lol they are hidden and almost forgotten gems that people who love gangster /crime empire based games need to experience.

The very first major game system i had was a PlayStation and i had the great honor of playing some of the best crime games ever produced. Sadly, even with the new systems, there is no major crime games on the market. What the hell?

Gangsters: Organized Crime is miles above all of these titles. Best sandbox mafia sim ever released. It's the only one of all the gangster games to make police actually feel like a threat. Committing crime really affects the environment to a point where the police presence in your territory is simply too high to even risk a shootout or robbery. Other mafias in the city will go to war and politic amongst each other, creating alliances as needed. Mafias can be overwhelmed by external pressure, causing a financial collapse that ultimately leads to the end of their reign. Mafias will buy businesses and establish new illegal businesses within their territories, which you can do as well.

Cops actually investigate crimes, news reporters will show up to crime scenes and can be bribed. Police and the FBI can conduct raids on your headquarters and businesses, and not just yours but all the other rivaling mobsters face these same issues. You can even go the legal route if you wanted, it might be significantly less profitable, but it's possible. You can even become mayor of the city, if that doesn't speak volumes to what you can do in this game I don't know what to tell you.

Another incredible aspect to G:OC is the storytelling side. For instance, I had an underboss I liked very much because of his high skill in several different departments. One day while he was out on a recruiting run, he was shot and killed by a rival mobster. A couple weeks later I spotted him in my territory, and sent a squad to kill him. Last second he managed to escape, and it wasn't until weeks later that I saw in the news report that he was killed by a unrelated mobster from some other family.

I would say gta 3 is a gangster game, not all crime games or games that you play as a criminal that you play as a gangster, for that instance you play as a hitman/ gun for hire
