In my school days, during the ten minute interval, we used to get something like this in our tuck-shop. They were round, with concentric ridges. If memory serves, I think they used to cost 25¢ each! A piece of milk toffee was 5¢.

I don't understand what makes these Sri Lankan. You used ingredients & a cooking method common in all western countries & there were no exotic & flavourful spices as expected. Just common onions, green chilis, salt & pepper. Most would just call this a toasted or grilled canned fish sandwich.

Beautiful! Although you should not have used a knife to take out the toasties as it can scratch the non-stick inner black surface of the toaster!
