Was named Little Venice by two journalists in 1842 in the book "Handbook for Travelers on the moon." Little Venice has very little in common with the famous Italian namesake , but the picturesque fishermen's houses on the River Regnitz are worth a visit. Visit it on foot or with a romantic cruise on the river Regnitz and admire the cottages located directly on the water. Boat trips are possible with the Bamberg passenger shipping between March and November. The two ships are called "Stadt Bamberg" and "Christl" and dock at the old Kranen. You drive in about 80 minutes through the old town down to the harbor.

Another possibility to see from the Regnitz from Little Venice is the Gondolieri with their real Venetian gondolas. This is Venice on the Regnitz in pure culture and an extraordinary experience to do so. The gondola rides are individually arranged and up to six people can be accommodated in a gondola. Included is always a typical Venetian -clothed gondola guide, which brings you safely to the destination and for the perfect atmosphere of course not to be missed. The prices vary depending on the route and duration. The gondolas can also be used as part of an event such as weddings, company outings or for larger groups.

So you can gain a completely new view of Bamberg. The best view of Little Venice from the countryside is provided by the bridge at the Old Town Hall. It is no wonder that Little Venice is very often chosen for postcard motifs and the like.

The former fishing settlement consists of about 30 in the 15th-16th century. Built on the eastern bank of the river Regnitz between the former harbor "am Kranen"and the Markusbrücke. The oldest of these small houses are one-storey and have high roofs. Unlike other waterfront homes, the living spaces face the water rather than the street. The cellars were open to the water at that time and served as a hall for the Schelche. The roofs are a bit crooked, have pretty balconies, tiny front gardens and very nice jetties. The idyllic location is still a reason for the desirability of the small houses. Some of them have been converted into holiday apartments so that every visitor can spend their free time in this picturesque environment.

Klein Venedig is well worth a stroll but looks at least as pretty from a distance, especially in summer when red geraniums spill from flower boxes. Good vantage points include the Untere Brücke near the Altes Rathaus, and Am Leinritt on the opposite bank. Notice the boats tied up outside each house – locals still use them to get around.

A row of diminutive, half-timbered cottages once inhabited by fishermen and their families (hence the street's name meaning 'fishery') comprises Bamberg’s Klein Venedig (Little Venice), which hems the Regnitz’s east bank between Markusbrücke and Untere Brücke. The little homes balance on poles set right into the water and are fronted by tiny gardens and terraces (wholly unlike Venice, but who cares), the river flowing sluggishly past just centimetres below ground level.
