My winner for over 50 years is Cabot extra sharp from Vermont.
If you like it to melt well add a sliced of Meunster to a grilled cheese with the Cabot.
We buy from Costco, something called "super sharp" cheddar that's really good.

ОтветитьSartori aged cheddar, and Sartori Montamore Cheddar are superb. I also like Kerrygold. Both are a lot more expensive than Cracker Barrel.....

ОтветитьI dunno where i live the supermarkets carry high quality cheese, i can get 12-15 year aged extra sharp cheddar, all these are okay in a pinch... but not even close to the REALLY great stuff

My grandfather would be proud. He was one of the original Kraft employees and retired as regional sales manager out of Cincinnati. There was never a day there wasn't Kraft cheese in the fridge at his house. (Cracker Barrel is Kraft's higher end cheese.) Personally, I prefer Cabot's Alpine cheddar cheese.
ОтветитьWhat!?! You overlooked Cabot’s Seriously Sharp! Great in a grilled cheese! Great cold in a sandwich. And the shredded version makes a phenomenal baked Mac & Cheese! Try it.
ОтветитьI recently tried Cabot's Seriously Sharp cheddar and it blew my mind. The taste is fantastic, it melts beautifully when shredded, and it's very very sharp in comparison to the other "extra sharp" cheddar I've had before. It's my go-to from now on for both cooking and snacking.

ОтветитьHas anyone tried Old Croc Extra Sharp. From Australia it's my favorite. The only place I've seen it is Walmart. Label says Grass Feed Cows, aged 18+ months.

ОтветитьCabot Creamery’s Seriously Sharp Cheddar is by far superior to anything produced by Kraft. It melts beautifully w/out separating and the flavour should easily satisfy the most ardent cheddar-heads like Bridget. Even better - Cabot’s line of vintage cheddars aged 3 & 5 years. Well worth the investment.

ОтветитьMy choice is Cracker Barrel Aged Reserve cheddar. It may not be quite as "sharp", but I think the flavor is deeper than what is labelled as sharp. I use it on cheeseburgers, generously. To get it to melt there I cover the skillet after the cheese goes on the burgers, then check it after a minute or so, and use the spatula to scrape what starts to melt down the sides back onto the top. Of course it is also my choice with crackers (Town House).
