Stealth is extremely amateur for a game released in 2019. How can Japanese developers get the feeling of a Shinobi wrong? There are too many examples of how to improve on the formula. For crying out loud, a "stealth kill" is as loud as a gun shot. Ai should be able to interact with you from all angles of the environment. You don't even have hide-the-body mechanics. It doesn't even allow you to wear different "Shinobi" attire. SMH

I was so looking forward to being this clever and sneaky ninja, but the game is just an extremely watered-down Dark Souls with some last-minute stealth mechanics. It's like they're stuck with this DS template and don't know what to do after that. Now watch Ghosts of Tsushima, made by a non-Japanese developer come out and blow our minds.

On top of the gameplay feeling very restrictive, they didn't really put much into the game. It feels like From just made a quick cash grab by putting as little into this game as possible, thus reducing production cost. Or perhaps they want to make you pay for DLCs later. There aren't different costumes (almost every game has that these days and their previous games were famous for the different armor and fashion), very few enemy types, the areas are boring and uninspired, only a few easter eggs...the world feels so empty and boring.

I feel the exact same way. Thinking it might be the last From Software game i play if they stick to this restrictive combat style

I was so ready to love this game, and for the first 20 hours I was really invested in learning to master it. But after 10 years From Soft's inability to make a competent camera or lock down framerates and frame pacing just aren't cute anymore and really hampers this game considering the faster pace of combat. Being tied to one weapon gets old FAST. None of the mystery and environmental storytelling of the SoulsBorne games. Vastly disappointed in this game

I have recently beaten sekro and had a great time. besides the “problems” with stealth, everything you said are about the same things people complain about in dark souls. Sekiro forces you to parry, dodge or jump. In dark souls all you can do is roll or parry . I think Dark Souls players expected too many souls-like qualities. If they wanted to make a souls game, I’m sure they would’ve added the customization and different attack styles like before, but sekiro isn’t dark souls. It’s a story game, with different mechanics, as a story game should. I found learning the attacks of my enemies to be about on par with dark souls. You die over and over till you get it right, trying new methods each time and remembering the pattern of attacks the enemy pulls out. I can kinda see how stealth is broken, but come on, this is from software. They wouldn’t develop the fighting to the extent they did, if you could easily stealth kill every enemy in the game. Imagine that in the actual dark souls series, you could sneak around and kill every enemy with a backstab without being caught, then what was the point of making the enemies difficult? Why would you use the new weapons you get if you don’t need them, just stealth the whole game. Stealth should only be used as a way to thin the herd before a fight in sekiro, to expect to kill everyone easily with stealth in sekiro, is pretty naive to how fromsoftware does their games. The game may seem very random but everything happens for a reason. People with ranged attacks will see you from farther away, while those with short ranged weapons give you more freedom to move around. On my play through I found many ways to clear whole areas using stealth and fight through bundles of enemies.

I believe the people expected a “Dark Souls in Japan” and that’s just not the direction the developers wanted sekiro to be completely tied to.

The stealth side of it doesn't bother me so much. I treat the game more like it's Tenchu than Souls or Bloodborne, when moving around the map.

Im more of a Bloodborne player. For the record, I have never co-oped, neither do I see the point in excessive levelling, when the time spent farming is better used studying how to beat bosses.

The worst part of Sekiro is the parry system, and timing counters, especially against bosses who can virtually one shot you for the sake of marginal errors.

The frustration is usually compounded by the fact that all you can do is erode their hp bar little by little with hit and block or move patterns.

At least in Bloodborne you can execute visceral hits after a well timed parry, which can inflict heavy damage.

The boss fights in Sekiro just don't feel rewarding, or even welcome, they're just chores you want to get past to get on with the game.

You cannot be serious. Yes in dark souls you got more weapons but fighting style us very poor compared to sekiro its not even close to have that amount of possibilities in terms of attack's. You got noskills tree in DS3 or Bloodborne. You got 4 in sekiro lol So I don't know wtf is wrong with you sayin ds3 havs more possibilities while its the total contrary. You arent force to do shit pary or stealth you can play the way you wanna play all the time stelth or attack or both and with the moves you want and prosthesis you want. In dark souls its the same 5-6 attack with just different weapons.

The games stealth system does suck, but let's not forget the biggest problem, the timing on blocks and dodges is absolutely garbage. There is no constant timing for attacks or blocks or dodging. Even with the same enemy, the timing is all random. I am my by no means an amateur gamer, and this game really just pissed me off. There are tons of other problems, but the inconsistency of the fighting system was so bad I quit after one day.

The game is nothing more than a glorified parry simulator with a ninja skin on top of it. It's for the diehard masochists of the from soft fanbase, no one else.

A bit of an update. I have persevered with Sekiro.

I haven't completed it yet. Still have Owl (Father), Sword Saint, Demon of Hatred and Emma/Isshin to defeat.

The reason for this is that I have a job, wife, and a 1 year old son.

But I have defeated every other boss and mini boss in the game.

I still have to say that the bosses are chores until you learn how to defeat them.

It still seems glaring to me that the bosses in this game are just tanks, and Wolf is a powder puff puncher with a glass jaw.

Your review really pisses me off. This game is linear in the sense that you need to fight each boss in a very particular way in order to beat them. And there is cheesing but if you want to get everything from this game it takes patience and dedication. This was by far the most difficult game I've ever beat, but now that it's over I can see what an inspiring game sekiro truly was. I like to paint and had often thought about the ways that the process of painting has taught me valuable life lessons. I feel the same way about sekiro. Even when my friend who has run through bloodborne 9+ times gave up because he didn't think he could beat Owl father, I was determined. It was beyond frustrating but it was the most rewarding game I've ever played. Some people learn quicker than others and I was one of those people that needed to just try over and over before beating some bosses. I vividly remember the feeling of wanting to return the game and chalk it up to that it's too hard, unfair, and just a waste of my time. But just like in life if you're not good at something and decide to give up, you'll never know what you're capable of. Everyone needs practice to achieve mastery. Lastly I love how since this game is so ridged, and even more so on ng+ with chip damage, when you finally do beat a boss that has taken hours and sometimes days of your life it rewards you with this overflowing sense of accomplishment met with an equally as intense visual satisfaction from feeling as close to samurai as people like you or me can get.

Sekiro is a groundbreaking masterpiece. It's not meant to be Dark Souls 4 so.... it's completely irrelevant to try and equate the two. It met and surpassed the artistic vision from the creator of the game. There is a "git gud" factor early on in the game that may detour some people but after putting the time in it has become my favorite From Software game.
