My dad will be 90 in August and he just had a Maxwell Street Polish a few months ago but always gets it on French Bread. I get my beef dry and add shredded cheddar but then dip it in the cheese sauce. Yum. Sorry but for me, my hotdogs have ketchup, mustard, easy relish and mayo. I only eat hotdogs from Portillos. Next time you go- get a piece of the Eclair cake- so damn good. Thank you for the video. Be safe out there.

Love the chocolate cake shake, but you are 100% correct about it being something you get after everything you need to do for the day. I use to feel the same way about mustard and something changed for me now it is one of my favorite condiments to use. Ketchup on the other hand can disappear for all I care.

I only have fried onions and honey mustard on my hotdogs. And I dip my fries in mayonnaise ( NOT MIRACLE WHIP)

I have lived in the Chicago suburbs my whole life. I actually live walking distance to Portillo‘s right now. My advice is order your french fries without salt even then it comes with little bit of salt cause they just use so much of it especially if you’re dipping it in something else, you don’t need the salt, you’ll just taste more of the cheese or ketchup if you dip it in that. Try it next time!

The polish dog at Portillo’s was my favorite. I left IL in 2011. Texas has just gotten Portillo’s. I plan to go there soon.

My boyfriend went to school in Chicago and we had Portillo's I instantly fell in love. The closest Portillo's from where I live now is over 3 hours away. I think about that place all the time though. 🤤

Portillos was never the same since Dick sold it out but still one of my favorite places when I go home to the Chicago suburbs ❤🍟

This whole time I have been watching your videos (2-3 years) I thought you were from Wisconsin. I had no idea you were from the suburbs of Chicago! You really seem like more of a midwestern girl from Wisconsin lol. I have never been to Chicago and this was cool to learn about portillos, I have never been to one. My dad actually grew up in villa park Illinois in the 50’s/60’s. He didn’t remember the hot dog stand, but it was kinda far away from where he lived.

Well now I want Portillo’s 😂 we have one here in Buena Park CA. My favorite was the croissant breaded chicken sandwich with onion rings and bbq sauce. They changed the sandwich bread though.. my husband always gets the chili cheese dogs. They’re pretty good. We love the cake shakes and sometime get just those!

I grew up in montana but my dad was from Chicago. I only ever eat my hot dogs with Ketchup only...from when i was 4/5 years old my father told me he would pretend not to know me if i ordered it in Chicago or the Chicagoland area.....the beef is real with Ketchup on a hot dog

Now i currently live in the Chicagoland area and order it plain most of the time with Ketchup on the side for fries hahahaa

The first time I was in South Carolina I asked for unsweetened iced tea. When I got the bill it said, "Yankee Tea." I feel like this is similar to having know about not asking for ketchup :-)

You should try stuff Chicago is “known for” food wise .. like make old foods either made in Chicago ect . Bet it would be funny the older the recipes are 😅

I’m also interested to know what portillos in other states look like inside. Because some of the locations around chicago have different decade themes. Like the og is very 1920s ish right? But there’s one in crestwood that’s like shiny 1950s diner, and there’s one I think in the north burbs somewhere that’s like 60’s/70’s flower child feel. Cute and fun. Foods always great. I've worked for 5 or 6 different portillos. I used to love portillos but it does seem like since Mr portillos sold the company the nostalgic factor has changed. We no longer have to call orders over the mic. I rarely hear people rhyme the orders and there aren't many workers outside. These are things that made portillos special and they are taking those things away. They no longer have strawberry mango smoothies either 😢. I also remember when they tried to change the cheese sauce but it was soooo watery they went back 😂😂. This was my 1st job though so it does hold a near and dear part of my heart❤

Portillo's is my favorite!! I get it for dinner every Friday! I used to get hot dogs mostly, but the beef is just too good that now I only get hot dogs if I'm driving somewhere. And always plain!!!

I feel the part about how you explain where your from except I’m form MI. I just always say Detroit or about an hour north of Detroit. If I say anything else, no one understands unless they are from here 😂.
