Booked at the start of the year, suddenly we were here, the start line of Trail Marathon Wales part of the @goldentrailseries7022 series. Starting from Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre, near Dolgellau, it runs through forest trails with vistas of the surrounding mountains, beautiful.
As normal, I was "slightly" undertrained and to add to my challenge, I'm sticking to trying to be as low carbon as possible in my travel to events so I'd used the train to get from Coventry to Machynlleth on Friday night, cycled UP to the start (25miles) and bivi'd nearby.
The run was epic though, great chats with other runners on the way round, beautiful views and challenging terrain, a fantastic day out on the trails. The "highlight" is the Sting in the Tail a steep, rough, uphill section at twelve miles in, ouch!
Run complete, coaster received, I refueled at the excellent cafe at the centre, before climbing back on my bike and spinning my way back to Machynlleth, net downhill for the return though still with some very long uphill drags!
Just made the last train home (well the 4 trains that were needed for the return journey) and into bed. Another great day of adventure!
