Develop some good habit for your swimming pool area and avoid these four common things in your pool.
Leaves in the pool are bad, but are supposed to be collected by the skimmer strainer baskets. However, not all pools have the same surface suction ability, and some pools have very heavy debris loads from a lot of trees around the pool area. For these pools you can end up with leaves that saturate and sink to the floor. Aside from being not great for swimming, having leaves in the pool will also result in the chlorine demand for your pool going up. Ideally you should scoop leaves regularly and vacuum the ones that manage to sink to the floor.
Metals are another thing that should not go in your pool as the chlorinated water will result in rusting and this can cause staining in your pool. Vitamin C can be used to spot treat metal stains in pools but better to just avoid having metals in your pool completely.
Glass (broken glass) is a real problem for swimming pools as the glass becomes essentially invisible underwater and of course people tend to not wear shoes in pools so this can result in some pretty serious injuries. It is better to adopt a policy of no glass allowed in or around your pool.
Racoons might look cute but the parasites that can exist in their feces are no laughing matter. This chlorine resistant roundworm parasite can cause permanent debilitating neurological disease in children so any sighting of a racoon around your pool should be taken very seriously.
