I remember when the original 2003 footage came out, it was the most amazing thing ever seen in gaming.

Anyone watching this for the first time, you need to check out the shakeycam version too! This is missing narration explaining what they're demoing and why it's so cool, and you may also not appreciate just how hyped the audience was. Blew our minds!

I love how this game has aged so well that people who don’t know hl2 wouldn’t guess that it’s 20 years old, such a pioneering game that really was the beginning of modern games as we know them today.

That's the definition of what every video game should be : brillant , fun , interactive, generous... nowadays exepted for some indies games all the others aren't made with passion more $$ ( bravo valve waiting for HL3 <3 )

13 year old me shat his pants when i first seen this

Younger folks may not understand how mindblowing practically all of this was. The average person never saw any of this, but we heard about it and we read about it in magazines. HL2 was doing things we had never even thought were possible in a videogame. It was like a revelation, like a game from 20 years in the future plopped down into our timeline.

Having just watched all the archived demo footage, this 2003 one is the first time the game feels like it's on Source instead of a weird half-way point between Source and GldSrc.

This absolutely blew my mind back in the day when I first saw this off the recording and seeing the direct capture now is incredible.

Dear Valve,

Could you please add an option for players to choose between the legacy gun sounds from 2015 and the updated ones in CS2? It would be great if players could select which sound they prefer.

We really miss the old gun sounds of the UPS, AK-47, AWP, and M4A1-S. We feel they were much better compared to the ones currently on live.

We don’t need this new graphic sht we need half life 3 or episode 3 at least release half life 2 graphic engine on episode 3 or half life 3 please we don’t care about graphic we do need just progress please it’s been so long since release of episode 2 and you guys left us speechless what gonna happen next! And then just forget it man plsssss. It’s been 17 years I was a kid that day now I’m complete grown man.

Half-Life 2 is one of my all time favorite games, Valve has truly made a a timeless classic, the story is so deep, even after 20 years still new things to be found, hidden details that add to the lore, the world building is on another level, being immersed in the world, it truly feels like you are in it, The G-Man such a deep, mysterious character, we don’t know who he is, his motives, the fight against the Combine, the gameplay is top notch, the use of the Gravity Gun, environmental physics, just a masterpiece game, Valve are among the best developers in the industry, really hope they make a part 3 some day.

2004 is the most insane year ever in gaming. Half Life 2, World of Warcraft, Halo 2, GTA: San Andreas, Kotor 2, Far Cry, Need for Speed: Underground 2, BFME, Fable 1 and Rome: Total War.
