Purrr-fect idea Vivi I have two fur buddies would go crazy over them a very good income idea. I have never had rhubarb custard do you have a video on how to make it? So sad about the peas they are one of my favorites, it's almost like dam if I do & dam if I don't with the cold frame. I'm so thankful that I work at home for the gas prices I wouldn't be able to drive to work & buy food both have doubled and tripled in price. I am so happy you were able to get to the garden at least you know what needs to be done instead of imagining. Your still ahead of the game Vivi everything is going to be alright =) I'm praying for you.
ОтветитьGood ideas for your herb garden Vivi, I hope it all goes smoothly. I'm just getting my herb bed started, I've got some seeds started and now the wait. The seeds were super old, so I sowed all that I had in hopes to get one of each. I might be buying plants but I hope not.
ОтветитьIt's lovely to see you back in the garden. Shame about your peas and the strimmer.
ОтветитьI find my parsnips germinate better when soaking in water for 24hrs.
ОтветитьI suggest you use chicken wire to make a cloche to protect your catnip, Vivi! I have also found the little wire trash baskets from the dollar store to work very well in keeping the critters off my garden plants. I also keep an eye out for those old wire hanging baskets that people throw out. Or even an old lampshade stripped of its fabric and covered in chicken wire. They make great cloches. ❤
ОтветитьLovely to see you back in the garden. Your shed looks so cosy and organised. I'm a couple of weeks behind you up here in the North. Stashing all my delicates in the house at the moment! Take care.
ОтветитьGoogled the Dig for Victory poster. Some vintage ones listed for quite a bit on eBay. I’m going to politely suggest a native flower to your region rather than a non-native one, pollinators will benefit even more. Brilliant idea, catnip toys! I bought catmint, not the same.
ОтветитьPut some sturdy supports and nets over the catnip, the cats LOVE rolling in it! They also love dried valerian root, that is also a really good plant for pollinators. Another idea for small bits of fabric is making small drawstring bags to fill with herbs and throw in the bath, you can either sell them filled or empty so people can fill them themselves.
ОтветитьGreat to see you out and about. I was just saying to my friend I want to develop my herb bed this year so will be interested to see your plans. Thanks for another enjoyable viewing.
ОтветитьPerhaps put one of the catnip in a hanging planter on the shed.
ОтветитьHi Vivi dear. I've had life throw me some curve balls too and I just started catching up with you again. I think with all that's going on with food shortages and prices. you are in a very good place!
I grew my onion from seed this year and they need planted in the garden, but we are still getting below freezing weather at night. Should they be ok?
We have an aster wildflower that bees love but bergamot attracts bees and you would have tea! Native Americans called it Oswego tea.
Catnip is not only a kitty favorite but medicinal. Plus, mine is always covered in bees. Plant a lot of it and share with the cats?
Can you direct sow more peas? All losses are a disappointment
Carry a knife with you for cutting and save your back a bit :-)
Have you found a new home yet?
lovely to have you back vivi
ОтветитьLove your rhubarb so much of it. Put an add in free cycle to see if anybody has a strimmer to give you … good luck!
ОтветитьHow lovely to see you back in the garden Vivi - your happy place! Hope you enjoyed your rhubarb and custard - they were made for each other I think. Thanks for sharing the herb bed plans. I have a new flower bed, full of spring bulbs and it changed every time I visit. New herb bed a bit further behind but developing. Such an exciting time of year. Take it easy and be sensible.
Ответить👍👍👍
ОтветитьI've seen old gloves nailed to posts and used as planters! They're a resourceful lot here in rural France!
ОтветитьUse chicken wire to protect your catnip x
ОтветитьInteresting observation where I live in Germany: it‘s mostly conventionally grown and raised food that‘s going up in price - not so much the organic, so I‘m not noticing much of a difference myself (although I do see the price hike for items I don‘t buy at the stores)
Lovely to see you back at the garden!
Good one - that's a great challenge: get the extreme ultimate out of the garden this year. Not a single wasted plant or space. This year I planted my 5 best onions so they'd flower and I'd get their seed due to a total germ failure I had. I've now got a lifetime supply! I think I'll copy you this season (though I'm 6 months behind). No experiments this year - only gonna grow my absolute favourites. I'll be interested to see how this goes.
ОтветитьPrices here in Ontario are going up almost weekly - I go with a list and stick to my list and thank goodness for our garden it is a big deal for us - organic and most of our veg for the year - we are working on a new green house to increase our lettuce and fresh greens in the cold season - Vivi we still have 3-4 feet of snow in the ground ! I am impressed with how you manage your garden space and it is good to see the purple broccolli .Our seed starts are in our home and soon will be out in the greenhouse.
Most people would benefit from some form of a victory garden - on the practical and psychological side.
Glad you are slowly getting better and are able to get into your garden. Be careful and look after yourself❤️
Hi Vivi, it’s so annoying isn’t it when the purple sprouting goes to flower but you are doing a good deed for the buzzy bees who will thank you for it, hope you enjoy your rhubarb and custard! Do you remember the rhubarb and custard sweets that they used to sell by the quarter? Yum x
ОтветитьIt's great to see you back in your garden, Vivi. Hope your back held up ok. Sorry about your peas😌
ОтветитьVivi it must have felt great to be back in the garden again. Your plans for the herb bed sound terrific! Too bad about your strimmer though.😕 There is always something! Hope you have time to make more lavender bags! Enjoy your long soak. 🛀
ОтветитьMe, too, Vivi. I'm going to work (cook) as I listen and watch.
ОтветитьLovely vid Viv.
ОтветитьYou are so real and fun….I enjoy your realism. One point I would love to tell you is how much younger you look with your adorable hat on!!! I have wanted to say how great you would look in bangs over your very high forehead which I also have and got into hair bangs when I was 20 and never looked back…..everyone told me the same thing…..just thoughts.🙂😊
ОтветитьHiya Vivi, yay for the herb bed. Plans sound fab agree with AnnMarie on her suggestion. Enjoy your purple sprout, I do hope you picked up some custard to go with rhubarb yummy! Blessings luv Ontario Canada Thankyou 🐝
Ответитьglad your getting out!
ОтветитьSad about the peas, it's a time of year when everything's full on I guess.
Hope your back continues to heal x
Poor peas! I hope you treated yourself to that custard to make up for them. It never rains but it pours Vivi, my back is a lot better and my bestie and I were off on a 3 day girlie trip today BUT her hubby became unwell last night so we had to cancel. He is ok and back at home, but hey ho, thats life and as long as he is ok thats all that matters. Look after yourself lovely xxx
ОтветитьYour shed is so, so cute!
ОтветитьHi vivi nice to see you back in the garden lv Irene 😘 xx
ОтветитьIf it is just one or two fingers, I use tape on the tips. I have used both duct tape and paper tape. Either works actually. I really hated throwing gloves away just because one finger had a hole. Now, if I see a finger wearing a bit more than the rest, I will just tape them. Since I started doing that, I do not toss gloves due to holes in one or two fingers. Now, if they really fall apart...
I have a huge pile now of new gloves and a couple favorite gloves that I use daily.
Loo rolls can be stored flattened. Just press them flat. They are pretty easy to pop back out. You can also fold a 2nd crease into them and fold them out into a square shape, which fits into trays easier. I have tried to fold the bottom in, but I find I like it better with the bottom open. The roots and wet soil stay together fairly well.
We have been told that there will be food shortages by various leaders. The supply chains are disrupted, and farming is threatened by rising costs and shortages on all fronts. My concern is that those who raise their own food may find their gardens the target of unscrupulous or desperate people. Rather a bleak observation, but there is no point being naive.
ОтветитьLovely to see you out and about again, Vivi, however carefully.
ОтветитьRe the gloves- there will be a few cold cows out there....
ОтветитьHi Vivi. Have you ever considered amaranth for its culinary and decorative uses? Also, does the frost make rhubarb sweeter? We never get frosts here.
ОтветитьHello Vivi. Wonderful to see you in your garden!😉💗💗💗
ОтветитьWhen my wall and dryer balls started to come unravelled I used my onion bag as a covering tried it not and cut off the excess and now I can use it again it wasn’t cotton but it worked
ОтветитьHere is also a very good idea I think you could make your cat toys and spray them with calming spray that either buy or make and when you take a cat to the vet he can play with the toy and calm him down so they’re not crazy in the crate. I hope you can use it
ОтветитьGood to see you out and about in the garden. Great to hear the back is getting better. All the best from Ont. Can.
ОтветитьSomething you might consider for the herb bed is bee balm, It's a triple threat: as a tea additive, bee attractant, and a beautiful flower. As for the nepeta, I use large plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off to protect them. If it get's warm, you can cut off the top also. Your rhubarb looks really healthy. I have 4 plants, but 2 of them are too young and 2 are not ready. I can hardly wait.
Ответитьvery good,thank you!
ОтветитьHi Vivi! Another great video. I put my back out a little over a week ago ( on the weekend). I was out in the garden, and taking a break I put my back out while standing, tipping my soda can back to drink the last little bit ( after being bent over for an hour) . Best wishes, keep loose, keep up with the lighter work, deep slow stretching..😁
ОтветитьCatnip will spread self sow everywhere. The sparrows like seed heads...Old saying...If you sow it cats won’t know it. If you plant it (established plant) cats will get it...Maybe plant in hanging pot first season and scatter seed later? Susan
ОтветитьCat mint/nip is brilliant ❤️ it can also make a wonderful calming tea for you as well.
ОтветитьRusty must be at least 14 or 15 by now :)
ОтветитьJust catching up on this... and somehow lost my comments!! 😬 Jumping back in at you trimming Gary's bush... nice. 👍 OMG - a Feddie Krueger glove on your plot!!! 🤣 Are you going to save seeds on your Cavolo Nero? 🤔 Yay for the rhubarb!! 😊 I hope you enjoyed that rhubarb and custard!! 👍👍👍
ОтветитьTook me forever to get thru another one, I need to speed up but it is full on gardening here now!! And sheep shearing, I hope. I am late, but mine are not mama sheep, just pets, and it has been cold over here. But it is time as it is warming up. Anyway... I loved your tulips! I googled the Dig for Victory and I think I want to print that out and have a good look at that. There is also a website of the same name... and then other things... oh, I hope your back is doing better. I feel badly for you cuz I know what mine feels like when I have "tweaked" it. Um, there were other things I wanted to say, but lovely video...and I am excited about the cat nip. I once tried to grow some and our cats literally crushed the chicken wire I put around it and would not leave it alone. So I gave up. But I am hoping you have better luck, because that is a lovely idea for some extra income. Crossing my fingers!! Best, Lynne
