Always good data points. I really like how the Laplander conceals its teeth when closed and has a nice push button lock. For me it’s the most packable saw.
I know you haven’t had the best experiences with Silky but o really like their gomboy.
I always prefer a folding reciprocating saw too. A blade for everything. Cost nothing, weight nothing and replace easily. Green wood, hardwood, metal, plastic, straight, curved, every length.
ОтветитьNice review. This will replace my wood only folder thats in my hurricane/bug out box. We're in central Fla, 18" of rain and 85 mph + winds but praise God no flooding in our neighborhood (designed with retention ponds for runoff) or damage to homes. Peeps around us toward Daytona not so lucky :(
ОтветитьHard to beat a Silky Saw for not much more money.
I got a Fiskars Pro folding saw at Home Depot for $30 that is also excellent
Have you ever tried the $20ish Fiskars 10" saw. Ive eyeballed it everytime i go into tractor supply. They also got a Fiskars x11 clone for half the price thats tempting. I already have a Silky F180 and a x7 so i really have no need buying it.
ОтветитьFor Australian viewers this is sold at Autobarn as the Rough Country 3 In 1 Folding Saw For AU$30
ОтветитьG'day Aaron, what a great concept, I've seen something similar in the trade, (non-folding), but never as an outdoor folding saw. Yeah shame the metal blade didn't cut the mustard. I wouldn't mind betting another company will come along and sort that out, albeit for a price.
Yeah, got few Silkys, a Laplander and an old Spear & Jackson job, I cant fault any of them at their respective sizes.
Btw; the Pocket Boy is often overlooked, it's lighter, cheaper, and still offers serious grunt. Not that I've personally snapped any Silky, though with the shorter blade there's a lot less flex and does come in an Outback version with thicker stock.
I am definitely interested in giving a Samurai a crack, I do remember you attesting to the high value/low cost on previous vids, though to be honest, I didn't realise they are "so" affordable.
Cheers Duke.
Needs a Lenox alloy metal blade made in Sweden or same quality, but, they'll probably never make one in that blade type
ОтветитьMetal Blade is even better on Bone for Big Game Hunter
ОтветитьI think your technique hindered the performance of the metal cutting blade. I've had the Laplander for over a decade and it is just the best.
ОтветитьI have never had the Laplander, but I believe it cuts as well as the silky, except that it cuts on the push as well as the pull, whereas the silky only cuts on the pull. I have two silky saws, the big boy and the gomboy and I love them but they don’t cut metal unless I possibly try the bone saw blade. However both companies offer saws that last an incredibly long time and that’s important.
My question for you Aaron would be how long will this mossy oak saw stay sharp because I have to tell you that I really liked the idea of the Warder saw with replaceable blades and you can get a variety of wood/plastic and metal blades for the Warder saw. I’m leaning towards the Warder saw with a pack of Diablo metal and plastic saw blades.
I have 2 corona razor folding saws. Really low price and they work great.
ОтветитьMore hand puppetry.
ОтветитьThe Corona saw is a beast that eats through wood limbs and small logs. Of course it's designed to be used by landscaping professionals so it should.
The Mossy Oak? For under $20 fiat usd with 3 okay-ish blades and a carry baggy, it might be fine for the one's who've never shoveled like we saw Harris using the other day.

Also buying a metal hand saw blade is good to have in one of those apocalypse only bag you never use, sure you will have to make handles for it but its cool to have. But this saw is way better than that obviously lol. I love it
ОтветитьI've bought several of these saws and I like them a lot. I keep one in my tool chest one in my car and another one in my go bag
ОтветитьMy Silky is just so damn smooth tho! 👍👍🇺🇸
ОтветитьThis model of saw is sold / branded by multiple companies.
Lowe's sells this exact saw (for around $15), but in Lowe's colors.
Walmart also carried a very similar model, but again, different colors and the blade was slightly shorter, and it only came with a wood cutting blade.
Regardless, it is nice to have the ability to cut multiple materials, especially in an SHTF situation.
Another point in the favor of the Mossy Oak is the price, but not the way most people think. I don't carry a get home bag in my car per se. Instead, I've got a module of stuff that I keep in my car and I'll pull out my lunch box and the like and put that module in there. That module is also cheaper stuff that when, not if, someone breaks into my car and says "this looks neat" and grabs it, I'm out a couple hundred not a couple grand. Forget who makes it, but Lowes carries a handle that will fit reciprocating saw blades and hacksaw blades alike that I've used for years, but this looks like it might be an upgrade.
ОтветитьHello, hope all's well with everyone/thing! Good stuff for sure. Keep up the good work and vids. Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👊
Ответитьjust get a folding saw that takes sawzall blades...
ОтветитьLove my Mossy. Had it for a few years now.
I did notice some wobble during the pipe cut, working further from the stump. This will likely have increased biting up and sawing closer as you did with the rebar (which I thought would be slow going) should reduce that a lot. Saying that, when cutting hollow stuff it will tend to bite on a stop/restart until you get a smooth rhythm and alignment going again. In absense of an actual vice I find the the back of the knee, hand opposite cut a firmer grip than foot on stump but that may just be me.
I do keep the middle blade in by default as I do little tree surgery.
Thanks for making a point of saying you and your family are praying for those dealing with hurricane aftermath
ОтветитьAmy blade I've ever used would cut through pvc.
ОтветитьWow, you’re knocking it out of the park lately with affordable product reviews. Survival/Bushcrafting/ Backpacking videos are now fun to watch again!
ОтветитьHowcome no'one mentions that they make other blades for the Baco. You can switch blades too. I got a green wood one for it. Just like the Silky teeth. 😏
ОтветитьOUTSTANDING. Another great informative video. Thanks. I thoroughly enjoy your very good videovs, they are educational.
Ответитьtoolan maks a saw for 18$ that can hold Tshank blades, reciprocating blades, and hacksaw blades, plus it comes with 9 different blades its extremely compact an i fit it in my my larger edc tool kit inside a maxpedition fatty pouch. its not going to cut wood nearly as well, but it has exstreme versatility.
ОтветитьHonestly the "fixed" "pistol grip" type of saws like the Silky Zubat have the best ergonomics, but they take up more space and with the sheath are heavier.
ОтветитьI think the metal cutting blade might be better for like corregated tin and such...
ОтветитьLowe's has it for $15 in there Kobalt line. For $25 you can get the Tough Built which IMO is better because it uses any reciprocating saw blade up to 12 inch and it folds.👍
ОтветитьDid you try all three blades? I was waiting to see if the third blade would have done better with the rebar.
ОтветитьSilky, all others are pale imitations.
ОтветитьFinally, my birthday wish come TRUE ! ! !
ОтветитьI got the Samurai you recommended and I really like it so far in the limited use I've put it through.
ОтветитьI use to have the Corona saw. That thing would chew through wood like a bever. Not sure what i ever did with that but highly recommend that saw.
ОтветитьThey should have made the metal saw blade thinner. And im sure it would have went through alot easier. Hacksaw width for a reason.
ОтветитьThank you for the great videos. I enjoyed it. Keep up the good information. Best regards.
ОтветитьSeems handy
ОтветитьI own the sog version got it on sale for $12 bucks a while back it came handy after milton hit us in Tampa Bay. Better than not having anything at all
ОтветитьThat's cool!!
ОтветитьI use one that I got from the local ace hardware. Takes recip blades. I keep a pruning a demo and a metal blade
ОтветитьThe black blade is your green wood blade, which is why it has those large openings and raker teeth. The gray finer tooth blade is for dry woods, and the other finest tooth blade is metal obviously, proper blade type definitely makes a difference. This is a great idea, and im surprised someone hasn't really done this yet. Typically, any saw that is for wood will also cut plastic. I've put hacksaw blades with other bow saws for this purpose, but an all in one would be great! Thanks for showing!
ОтветитьAlmost went this route but lenox or any folding saw that takes recip blades just for the availability
Ответить
